I have a 1996 Ford crown Vic and the interior/courtesy lights are intermittent. They will not work with the headlight switch either. When a door is opened they come on very dimly and for only a short

First check out the fuse holder that it is clean and tight, and the fuse ,I have had the odd one that goes open circuit under load. also check the bulb and holder in the lamp.

What is the round thing that screws into the side of the master cylinder on a 96 crown vic? and does it have anything with it not having any brakes at all ?

THAT WOULD BE THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATER did you bleed the whole system from the master cylinder to portionion valve to all the wheels right/r then left/r to front/r to left/f in that sequence .and make sure at every step you never let master cylinder go empty .

I have a1996 Ford Crown Victoria and the interior lights work at times and at other times they do not. This auto has the fade in fade out interior lighting system

vehicle is pretty old and switches and contacts start getting finicky. Check to see if the door on the other side creates the same problem, if one side works everytime and the other doesn't the problem is in the door. If both sides are the same then the problem is in the relay or brain for the dimming feature.

Why is my crown vic slow and hot?

I would say your exhaust converter is worn out & blocking the exhaust from getting out & since you continued to wonder , verses actually having the car tested, that you now have ruined the transmission

Why is my 96 crown vic hot and slow?

sounds like a transmission issue. could be a pump or something as simple as really old fluid. not something your likely to repair at home. and unfortunately check engine lights only come on for emissions related issues so most transmission codes don't set the light to let you know there is an issue. you can go down to local auto parts store and have them pull the codes and se if there are any transmission codes. the getting hot in the cab could be from increased temps from the transmission but from the sounds of it you may not have a prayer for saving the transmission. but don't loose all hope start with getting the codes and see where you are. hope this was helpful.

Cranks but will not start

are you getting spark? Hold the spark plug wire a few sixteenths of an inch from somethig that is metal and connected to the chassis, crank the engine and see if you see a spark (works best in low light and night conditiions).

03 crown vic will turn over and still wont start

You need four things for your car to run: fuel, spark, air, and timing. Until you figure out which is missing, it will be difficult to diagnose the problem. What did you check on the sparkplugs? You can tell a lot from your sparkplugs if you know what to look for, checking if each one gets spark is important. Is it getting fuel? At the right time? There are many components involved in the timing process...depends on what kind of system you have. One of the culprits can be sensors. You will have to have some moderate electrical knowledge and possibly a wiring diagram to properly check these. I will try to follow this question to help as much as i can

Check the rubber grommets on the firewall to make sure the are sealed. Lift the rug to make sure it is not rotted underneath, the seal on your windshield may not be good allowing water to get inside.

Replacing ignition switch

The switch? Or the lock cylinder? If you have the old one out, turn the new lock cylinder to the on position ,line up the grooves on the cylinder with the grooves in the column and it should slide right in and click in. The switch just holds in with 2 Torx screws.you align the post sticking out of the bottom of the switch with the indentation in the steering column, tighten the screws and attach the plug to the switch.
