Usually, It is a little nubbie that sticks up and out towards the back of the laptop. When you close the top the back portion of screen will depress the button and turn off the screen.
right click on speaker icon, select play back devices, a box will appear and show the devices that are present, if there is more than one, click on the one that has no green check mark on it. Click set as default and try again. Also make sure nothing is muted.
Have you tried updating the drivers?
You'll need to plug in an ethernet cable to get online of course. But if you then run the sony update utility you'll see if there are any updates.
If it is a Windows machine, you can right-click on the desktop. On the pull-down menu, select NEW, then SHORTCUT. When the Create Shortcut screen appears, in the location block, enter www.gmail.com, then press the NEXT button. On the next screen, name the shortcut GMAIL, then press the FINISH button.
Keyboards to wear out, but are not expensive to replace. Multiple key strikes and sticking can be caused by spilling "stuff" into the keyboard, even crumbs will do it.
it may be that you have a broken display signal cable in the unit. these are pretty cheap to replace but do require getting a trained technician like myself to replace it for you, as there is a significant amount of work involved in actually swapping it out.
good luck, tim
You could try connecting an external monitor with whatever graphics port you have available (VGA, HDMI or DVI.) It may not show your screen automatically, but it's worth a shot. Otherwise, take it to a computer shop and have a nerd try and save your hard drive data.
EBay, Amazon or other online retailers. Search for the keyboard with model of pc. (I.E. HP dv7-1245x keyboard replacement). There should be no shortage of parts anywhere you look.
Hi Linda
You must be old enough to remember the old way of setting up screens. That was when they were CRT's (Cathode Ray Tube).
The large picture tube used to use Deflection Coils on the neck of the picture tube (magnetic coils) therefore requiring adjustments to the alignment of the screen (by adjusting magnetic signal from coils) Hard to Explain any further.....
Cathode ray tube
So.... Modern devices that use LCD or LED or Plasma Displays.
These are all modern Digital devices that do not have any adjustments to be made. Basically it is all coming directly from the Video Memory to the pixels in the screen.
All computer controlled......Ones & Zeroe's 1 - 0
So..... where is the problem?
Probably a loose or broken cable between the video memory and the display. Usually carried over a thin flexible flat copper connector which goes between the gap between the computer and the moveable screen.
When you open your laptop screen & close it... it can eventually crack this cable & therefore some screen dots (pixels) are missing.
To determine location of break. Carefully watch the monitor LCD screen as you open and close to see if it glitches or fixes the problem. Probably someone will have to replace this or some other cable inside.

Hope this Helps
Please give me a tick? or "Thanks" if this enlightens you!
