PC won't start up

It may be worth trying to re apply the thermal paste to the processor, make sure you remove power from the machine before you open it up. The CPU may have failed, but they don't fail very often, so try the paste first, it will only cost a few GBP for a couple of applications.

My sony computer keeps powering off & on and will not boot up

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Remove the memory modules from their slots. Take the opportunity to clean the slots on the motherboards and the memory module connectors. Use compressed air to blow dust away and clean contacts with a soft cloth. Do not use a metallic vacuum cleaner if it touches any component it may create a short and cause damage to the motherboard or other components. Do not use solvent that may attract dust and never poke things like cotton buds in to slots. lightly rub an alcohol (Methylated Spirits) on a cloth not to hard let the alcohol do the work on the copper gold or silver tabs and r Allow the pins to dry. They will air dry in a matter of minutes. If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer. Check the memory module and memory slot contacts. They are either copper tin or gold. The colour will tell you which they are. Mixing tin and gold can result in corrosion that prevents proper contact. Look for any sign of physical damage to the memory module, memory slots or the motherboard. Reseat the memory modules. You should hear an audible click when they are in place. Do not use too much force to reseat the memory module in to the slot this can cause damage to the module, slot or motherboard. The hardware that you are trying to access is damaged or failing. The device drivers for the hardware are faulty or incompatible. Could be a problem with the Hard Drive or the Hard drives PCB http://www.onepcbsolution.com/ There is a connection problem such as a bad cable for internal hard drives Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail Make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy (If Applicable) have secure connections and are not faulty. or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error Hope this helps.

I need unlock my sony desk computer

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

The most common way that we know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.

cmos battery Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment. Although on some motherboards the Cmos battery is soldered in

Often many users will leave the administrator account alone or have other accounts with administrator rights. If you're not logging into the computer as administrator or have other accounts follow the below steps to reset your other accounts password.

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer Advanced Boot Options screen appears. Select the Safe Mode option using the up and down arrow keys, then press the ENTER key. Choose "Windows XP Home/Professional", depending on the version of the operating system. Press ENTER. Shortly, the welcome screen should show. Log in as "Administrator". Click Yes to not use System Restore Mode. Click the Start button. Choose Run and type in "control user passwords" (without the quotes). Click OK.

Select the "Administrator" user. Click Change my password. Enter a new password in the corresponding text boxes. Click OK. Write this password down and store it in a secure place Close the User Accounts window and restart Windows. In User Accounts select the account you wish to change the password for, click change password and then enter the new password or click remove the password to remove the password from the account. Hope this helps you

My Sony VGC-RB34G is suddenly

The computer should beep ONCE when starting-up.
More than one BEEP implies either that the video-card is not responding, or that it is not fully "seated" in its slot, or that the video-cable is not tightly connected.

Try a different video-card in your desktop.

Computer: Sony Desktop Model: PCG-242M.

Based on what you have presented...
1 long 2 short - (Video Controller Failure or faulty add-on card

Do you have an installed video card? Does the unit have a built in Card? (In other words part of the mother board?)

If you have an installed card check that it is not loose... If it is still not functioning (and)

If your unit also has a built in video card that is disabled... go to the BIOS and enable it... see if your unit will boot up...

If the video card is not loose and you do not have a built in card... you may want to see if you know someone with an extra card to loan... or purchase a new one....
