The microwave seems to be working fine, but seems it came back from repair it seems quieter than usual. I hear more of the unit itself like a humming noise coming on and going off. Almost seems as though it is heating unevenly too. It is almost like there is an internal fan sound that I am not hearing when it is running. The turntable and the stirrer are turning. Is there something else that could be wrong I can test?

That humming is the Magnetron turning on and off, that is what all MW oven do, it is nothing to worry about.

SOURCE: microwave

I think You should replace the GEAR that makes it turn, or just do what 'techman' Says.

This is usually a bad door swithc or loose or broken door switch mount.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and

Many thanks to e3enigma above! I removed the synch motor under the turntable; all other microwave functions work fine and the grinding noise is gone, hooray! A trip to the appliance parts store tomorrow for a replacement synchronous motor and all should be well. Thanks again!

SOURCE: turntable sometimes works, mostly doesn't

It sounds like you have a jamming turntable motor.

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

SOURCE: GE XL 1800 microwave light and fan operate but no heat

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and your magnetron is still under the part warranty, but you would have to pay labor.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5cge_hotpoint%5cmini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpg

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (1 year), G.E. will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If it's within the mag warranty, G.E. should send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832 with your model, serial, and manufacturing date.

If nothing else, you can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a GE-authorized servicer.

You can find a GE-authorized servicer by calling GE Appliance Service at 1-800-848-7620 or here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Amana RS10D Not heating up . Fuse,2 thermal cut out, door switch, all ok. board/ magnetron/ transformer dead? Pls help. Don't want to discard 5 units...all same problem...Thanks

Hello,

I regularly repair Amana commercial microwave ovens.

  • What is the FCC ID number from the tag?

  • What is the Manufacturing number (like P76695, etc.)?

  • Is it making any unusual noises?

  • Is it running quieter or louder than usual?

Microwave has power will not start

When you say it just hums, do you mean that it sounds like it is running but isn't heating? Or do you mean that the sound is different from when it normally runs? Is it quieter or noisier than normal? Do you hear the fan running or is that sound missing?
IF it sounds normal (or about the same as when it worked), but it's nust not heating, then it is probably a bad magnetron tube.

Microwave makes noise after door is opened jenn air model jmv9169ba

Microwave ovens emit powerful radio waves and in general for safety reason should only be used when in perfect working order. It usually costs more to repair an older microwave oven than to simply replace it.
Suggest buy a new one.

Only microwave not working

Chances are you have a bad secondary / cook relay on the control circuit board. The relay can be replaced. See details here.

My still fairly new kenmore 1000 watt microwave appears to be operating fine but doesnt heat. What might be the problem?

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

Post a new help request with the answers to these questions as well as the full model number from the tag on or in the unit.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

New unit used 3 days. Microwave beeps and screen goes to menu, or set time screen. Sometimes changes the date all by itself. Does this in the middle of the night all night long.

I advice you to contact service if it has guarantee. This seems to be a psychological problem about your oven(!). Technical person need to do an electronic research surgery on its board to see if there is any wrong thing.

Kenmore microwave 911 41479791 no power?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
No Lights or Power, Unit seems Dead First check is the main fuse of the unit. On countertop units, you will need to take the shell off. The fuse will be close to where the cord comes through into the unit. OTR units, this main fuse is usually behind the control panel or possibly behind the vent. Usually the fuse is obvious if blown, otherwise test with an OHM meter, if open, replace fuse.
Some brands will also have a thermal cut-off fuse in the incoming voltage line to the control board. Older Maytags and Samsungs have this fuse in it. This thermostat looking fuse is usually above the oven cavity somewhere under the outside shell. Sometimes you can get to it through the vent of OTR models. Test with an OHM meter, replace if open.

Everything else seems to work fine but when I take

Magnatron has failed, possible internal fuse to the Magnatron,or the Magnatron itself has gone bad.
Both are replaceable, but the microwave will have to be taken down to gain access to these parts to be serviced.
Now, depending on the age of the unit, it may not be wise to invest the cost for this repair, unless, is it still under the manufactures 1 year warranty or did you purchase an extended service contract on this unit?
Good Luck !

Troubleshooting my Kenmore 721.66227

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Otherwise, when you hit Start to cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?

Any unusual noises?

Is it louder or quieter than usual?

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting Sears to get it fixed free.

Microwave came on by itself

Yes this is usually caused by the touch assy, but $278 !!!!! Thats kinda steep considering the panel assy is only around 30-60 bucks!!! It will need the touch assy and even possibly the control board, because sometimes the logic IC gets fried and causes "ghost issues" as well.
