Hello Wittwer,

I understand that you are having a problem with your head locking in the down position. This is a common problem when the set screw that holds the latch in place is missing. On the right side of the base up next to where the lock is you will notice a whole that has threads make sure that the set screw is there if not you will need to order a new one. Here is a link to sears parts direct where you can purchase a new set screw they cost $4.62.

Had same issue, I followed instructions and found the screw was untightened half way. Screwed back in and works fine. Thanks for saving my dough??

The beater to bowl screw is locked in position and cannot be adjusted. flat beater and whisk hit bottom
Without looking at it myself I can' think what the problem would be but a cheating solution would be to undo the 4 screws that hold the pedestal to the motor housing and put 4 washers there between the pedestal and motor housing and replace the screws.I assume you mean the flat paddle beater because that's the only one to use to set the bowl height.

Adjust the head height first, flat paddle should just clear the bowl. Te head height adjustment can be seen in by the hinge looking from the front when the head is raised. Screw in (clockwise) to lower and out to raise. You cannot get the head lock right when head height is miles out

Kitchen Aid stand mixer head doesn't lock down and wobbles
You need to do a couple of strokes with a rat tail file at a 30 degree angle at the top of the slot the head lock engages into. You will need to remove the hinge pin to do this. A Kitchen Aid agent will have done plenty of then so it won't cost an arm and a leg to get it sorted.

I am sure you are locking the tilt head in the down position when your using it right? If so then check to see if the beaters are hitting the bottom of the bowl. If they are then there is an adustment screw that sets the height of the head in the down position.

Can you lengthen the beater by loosing a screw?
Hi, KLOEHR, your beater will not lengthen by losing a screw. However, if you lost your Beater to Bowl Clearance adjustment screw, then it might appear that your beater had ‘grown’ because now the beater may be touching the bottom of your mixing bowl, where previously it had not. Simply said, the beater didn’t grow the mixer head drooped.

Stand jumps
The height of the beater is easy to adjust on the tilt-head model.  Tilt the head back, and look into the pivot from the front of the mixer.  You should see a screw on the hinge.  With a flat blade screwdriver, rotate this screw half a turn counter-clockwise to raise the beater height.  Lower the head and check that the beater does not touch the bowl.  Repeat until the adjustment is satisfactory.  To lower the beater closer to the bowl, turn the screw clockwise instead.
