The most common and most likely problem that is causing this is simply empty ink cartridges. In your particular case it is called a toner cartridge. If this is the case, all you need to do is replace said toner cartridges and it will be fixed. There are a few ways you can go about doing this.
1. If you still have the manual that came with the printer, it will most likely have a guide inside of it, showing and/or describing how to replace toner cartridge. If this is not the case, then the guides can be found online. I will write a brief one here for you though.
2. Get a new toner cartridge. These can be obtained online simply do a search for canon IR 2022 toner cartridge or at a local printer/cartridge store such as Cartridge World. If you don't mind waiting for shipping, I would generally recommend getting it online as it is usually cheaper.
3. Replace your cartridge:
Pull the handle on the front of the printer to open the front door, then pull down on the blue lever.
Pull the toner box by it's handles and pull it out until it stops.
Remove the new toner from it's box that it came in and shake it vigorously. This is to spread the toner powder evenly inside of it.
Place the toner's cartridge on top of the toner box and push it back as far as possible.
Push the toner cartridge down until it locks onto the toner box. Pull the black cartridge knob until you see a stop sign symbol.
Tap the top of the cartridge to allow it to empty into the toner box.
Push the toner box handle back to it's original position.
Remove the empty toner cartridge from the machine and push the toner box back in it's place.
Close the front door.
Possible Problems:
1)Out of / Low on Ink.
Solution : replace the ink
2)Printer Setting
Solution : Check to make sure the lighter/darker slider is somewhere near the middle. This will be in the configuration screen on your printer.
