Are you sure the sour milk smell is coming from *inside* the dishwasher? Do you have kids? Pull out the dishwasher, the fridge and the stove and look for spilled soured milk. When the windows are open, the breeze is blowing the smell.
I have seen this so many times in commercial kitchens during my 50 year career.
numerous possible reasons, are you using it as a waste disposal unit, doing regular services washes, washing at the right temperature, cleaning the filter often enough, using the right detergent?
would start by removing the filters and giving them a good clean out. also clean out the spray arms. then get a good quality dishwasher cleaner and put it on an intensive wash. this should clear any smells.
if not check where the outlet hose drains to, this may need a good cleaning as build up of gunge can occur
After you run a load of dishes put 1cup of CLR or vinegar (white) and run a quick wash.no dishes, after running dishes clean out spray arm and clean strainer, use a rinse agent like finish, and spray off dishes before loading.About 35yrs. ago I use to be a dishwasher as one of my first job's and if you did'nt spray the dishes and scrap them off before loading, the dishes would not come out clean,And after each shift the dish washer would be cleaned out.
you can go to www.frigidaire.com and input your model number in the manuels colum and you will be able to download a new manuel.
to clean you dishwasher you can use some CLR or any other kind of lime and scale remover to clean the inside and the spray arms.
if this does no good then you may need to replace the main wash motor.make sure there is enough water in the unit when it is running lack of water is a big problem with not getting dishes clean
Do this. Pour two cups of white vinegar into the empty dishwasher and then run your longest and hottest cycle. This will clean and sanitize your machine. Do this as often as needed. J.
correct, no filters to clean, but what you are smelling is soap residues that have built up on the heating element and when it goes thru the heat dry cycle, it burns the soap causing the odors. trying the cleaners you have may help but the cause is the residues. you need to use a d/w cleaner like d/w magic or citric acid. if you just run the unit with the waterheat option and vinegar in a bowl right side up in the top rack, it should rinse out the residues then dont use to omuch soap and only use dry powder soap. no tablets or liquids. run hot water at the faucet first and then be sure to use the heat option. it may take a few cycles to get rid of the odor but it will go away as you get the unit cleaned out.
Dishwashers need cleaning too :)
Take a look inside your dishwasher: Click here http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=41284 then click on PUMP AND MOTOR diagram on the left. Number 47 on that diagram is a filter. Make sure that filter is clean. Then, using a dishwasher cleaner (see below) run your dishwasher through the entire cycle on empty. This should help, post back if it doesn't.
Dishwasher cleaners:
1. Vinegar - good cheap solution, if you don't mind the smell :). Dump a gallon inside an empty dishwasher tub and start up the regular wash cycle.
2. CLR - I've been told it works, but never tried myself
3. Dishwasher Magic - This stuff works pretty good. One bottle per use. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/accessories.aspx?part_id=2675393&cat=62&rdr=%2faccessories.aspx%3fcat%3d62
