Canon S215 viewfinder and lcd display screen blk

When camera is turned on the lcd as well as the veiwfinder is black. All functions seem to be there, but I cannot take a picture or viewed prieviously taken pictures on the card. It is really frustrating..is this fixable or is it less expensive to replace the camera? The lenz of my camera does not open and the viewfinder and lcd are black, although the batteries are brand new and all other functions appear to work. I havn;t done anything to try to resolve it apart from look on-line for solutions.

Just discovered it tonight - online research seems to indicate an lcd sensor problem. Don't know if it's worth spending $100 or more to get fixed; just really bummed that I'm long past warranty with both Cannon and Amazon

It may be fixable, but it may be expensive. You also have the option to upgrade your camera through Canon's Loyalty program. I'd give them a call and find out what your options are before going out and purchasing a new camera.

There is two ways to view your "taking picture" with the LCD and with the viewfinder, you can shut the LCD off to save battery power and use the viewfinder and that is what I think has happened. a touch of the DISP button and it will switch from the LCD to the viewfinder. here is a diagram

With you saying the LCD is working for functions but not for taking pictures this is what I suspect is the problem.

No image is available to view on the lcd screen canon ixus85is

Click the "disp" button. The display of the camera has been turned off in the LCD screen but you can still use the viewfinder, this functionality is just for those who prefer to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen.

When turning pwer on the the shootingsettings

You get to the viewfinder by putting an eye to it. The Rebel XT works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing you the image through the viewfinder. Only more recent dSLRs have a Live View capability, allowing you to use them as point&shoot cameras by viewing the image on an LCD.

I have no image in the viewfinder on a canon S2 IS but the lcd display works and it seems to work fine otherwise. What are the likely causes?

There is sometimes a button on digital cameras that turns off the LCD while taking pictures to save battery. Does your camera have a viewfinder? If it does then there might be a button that looks like a little screen or says "disp" or something like that.

Camera screen remains black when I turn on shooting mode

Turn the camera on. With the screen showing, press the DISP button and this will give you a selection of different screen views i.e. squares for aligning shot squarely; black - thru viewfinder only; etc. Different modes will give you different screen displays i.e. P setting screens are different to when you have the camera set on AUTO.

Hope this helps.

Black LCD and Viewfinder

I have the similar problem as above...Canon 5D

When camera is turned on the viewfinder is black. All other functions appear to be working correctly. I can view pictures on the card. I take a picture and it views on the screen and the spec's come up on the botton of the view finder but the viewfinder is 90 black with a bit of blur. Is this the censor or a mirror...?

Is this fixable and at what approximate cost? Would it be cheaper to replace?
