Freezer is fine. Fridge is not cold enough. Technician defrosted the upper inlet vent to the fridge - then it improves for about 24 hours (gets fridge temp down to around 7 degrees C over night, but temp rises to around 11-12 C during the day). The control louvres in the vent are moving freely when defrosted with the hair dryer, but within 24 hours the frost returns and you can feel that there is little or no airflow to the fridge.

GE Profile Refridgerator side warm, freezer ok?

Fridge gets cold air from freezer to cool it. Your freezer is fine but not enough cold air is getting into fridge compartment. U have some dampers or louvers that direct air flow to fridge and if they are not set properly cooling will not be adequate. Check those out.

My bottom freezer gets cold but the top part (fridge) does not. Why? I have an older first addition style

Its defrost problem. When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then over ice will get collected on freezer ventilations and that will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge, so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool.Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

I have a 5 yr old side by side fridge. just a couple of days ago I noticed that temp. in the fridge was way too warm. Freezer is fine, but when I felt for any kind of cool air circulating into the fridge...

frost on the coils means the compressor is working and it is making "cold" if the cold isn't getting to the fridge side the fan the brings the cold air to the fridge side is ethier blocked off or not working. If you have a small thermomator use it to check the fridge side apx 38 to 40 degrees is the "food zone". the fan is usually not to expensive and often not that hard to change. there is a timer that defrosts the coils usually about once every 24 You may see a small knob on the defrost timer. watch its position over several hours and you should see it move position. if it doesn't move then the defrost timer is faulty. the most expensive part of the system is the compressor and it sounds like that part of your system still functions. If the freezer is getting plenty cold but the fridge part is not cooling off you have an air flow problem. It is not uncommon for these fans to make noise and then fail altogether.

Our refrigerator is not getting cold but the freezer is working like a charm. The compressor is still working also. I've heard remove everything, unplug it and let it sit for 24 hours to defrost it and...

Yes , this is to confirm that the defrosting happens as the vents might be clogged due to malfunction of the defrost timer not acting and so frost will form on the vent to prevent flow of cold air to the fridge.
If after about 8 hours the fridge works perfectly then the defrost timer , the heater or the thermostat is faulty.

Refrigerator is not cold (50);freezer is working; vents not blocked. What can I do? Fan is working, & compressor does kick on.

Nine out of ten times it turns out to be a defrost issue. What most people dont understand is the refrigerator gets its cool air from the freezer. If the evaporator coil in the freezer becomes a block of ice then the airflow from freezer to fridge section is blocked. The block of ice along with already frozen foods in the freezer compartment help to keep those foods frozen. Therefore you assume the freezer section is fine. However, the lack of cool airflow to the fridge side quickly turns that 38 degree air into 50 degree air. You could try unplugging the fridge and leaving doors open for 24 hours, this will thatw the evap coil. Plug it back in after the 24 hours, and within 12-24 hrs everything should be cool. If the fridge continutes to cool for about 3-6 days and then fails again, you certainly have a defrost problem. This is long winded, but hope it helps

Fridge not cold enough

If freezer sections work and fan running fine, most likely iced up vents

for side by side the freezer vents is on right

and refrig vent in on left, check for icing

if iced up this restricts cold air flow

and sounds like your issues, you can use a hair dryer at distance

best idea is to unplug it for two days with door open

to ensure correct defrost, this also resets some components
