The Operating system maybe corrupted but your files are still good. Try to run a system restore and before the date you notice the system fails to start.

The reason the recovery disc is the best option is that it will have all the drivers for the machine included.
Before you start recovery, make sure you can read your COA licence on the bottom of the machine.
You can still do a factory restore without recovery CD but you will need a copy of your operating system on disc, the licence key (COA) and prefferably, all of the system drivers copied to CD or stored on USB drive, these will be available on the HP support website.

If you are referring to a recovery disc then, Yes, computer manufacturers have their copy of recovery discs that is intended only for your system model. You should call their respective hotlines in order for you to purchase one.

Recovery disk can be save as system back up files and then reinstalling it again. Try to ask your friend to give you system back up files(same operating system) which can be save using external Hard drive or USB flash disk and install this back up to your computer to work again or if your computer is not working try to boot your computer in CDROM and use the back file to restore your system.

You can use the VAIO Care Software to access the Recovery Partition within the Operating System.

To open the VAIO Care Software, click Start, All Programs, VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care. Then, in the VAIO Care window, in the left pane, click Recovery & Restore . Then you can select the required option in the Recovery & Restore window.


You can also access the Recovery Partition by pressing and holding the F10 Key while restarting the Computer. At the Edit Boot options screen, please press the Enter Key to launch the VAIO Recovery Center.

Yes you need to purchase a new disk because yours is damaged. If this is not the case then its your CD drive not reading properly
