Alarm/power light blinks five consecutive times

A repeating 5 orange flash is supposed to mean a foreign object inside the machine interfering with the print head. Check at both ends or the carriage track for a crumpled up wedge of paper. If nothing is there, check down the back paper feed path. If still nothing, it is possible the print head is overheating and is about to die.

I have a pixma ip4200 canon printer

Theres a large lid directly below where the paper goes in and above where it comes out. You can see that is a different scetion from the rest of the printer. If you still cant find it, its where the pixma ip4200 logo is and just above the bigger canon logo on the front. Simply open it and wait until the cartridges move along into view, the one(s) that need changing will flash, push in the small tab on the cartridge and lift out. Hope this helps.

ERROR SIGNAL CODE 5 FLASHES

Error also refers to the EEPROM for the printhead. I would reset the EEPROM and see if that helps.

Printer servcie manual here and it will show you how to do it:

Canon Pixma iP4200

When you plug your printer into the computer, what does the computer say?

Count how many flashes you are getting. Look in your owners manual to see what it says for that number of flashes.
