Hello

35 is color ink cartridge .. high yield,

A new color print cartridge needs to be installed.

If available, click the Continue button on your computer screen to print using the

black (or photo) print cartridge. (The Continue button is available only at the

beginning of a print job.)

Note: A variable amount of ink remains in the color print cartridge.

Follow these steps to replace the color print cartridge in your printer:

1 Cancel the print job if not already canceled.

2 Replace the color print cartridge with a new cartridge. For more information,

see "Removing a used print cartridge" on page 35 and "Installing print

cartridges" on page 35.

3 Print again.

To order supplies, click Order Ink on your computer screen. You can also see

"Ordering paper and other supplies" on page 40 in this guide.

Re-set ink level for Lexmark X2550 cartridges.

Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled cartridges. These tend to degrade print quality and cartridge/printer performance.
Please note that once a cartridge is refilled, it can no longer register its ink level.

Refilled ink cartridges at Walgreens, printer won't recognize

Hello!
28 and 29 are not meant to be refilled. They can physically be refilled, but they won't work. That is because Lexmark has put in a smart chip that doesn't allow refill.
You need to buy 28A and 29A or 34 and 35, those cartridges can be refilled with no problem.

I have refilled a color cartridge for a lexmark x2550 and it just keeps asking me to change the cartridge. Is there anyway to trick the printer into thinking the cartridge is a new 1?

I don't think so. but you can clean the copper connection on the cartridge and printer. be careful not to damage either one. this are very sensitive components.

Using refill cartridges

That is because they cannot e refilled. The ones you get with your printer ( 28 & 29) are what Lexmark calls "return program cartridges", which means they are for one use only.
I suggest you buy other cartridges that can be refilled. Those are either 28A or 34 (black cartridge) and 29A or 35 (color cartridge).
Here is a link to Lexmark's site, where you can see the list of cartridges that are compatible with your printer.

Lexmark X2550 Cartridge Refilling

I just ordered a Lexmark X5495. The carts that come with it are throw aways (or return them to Lexmark to be remaned.) You can use cart. # 28a, 29a, 34 or 35 to refill, the latter two being the high yield carts. And yes the printer manufacturers are playing a cat and mouse game with us. I normally use Epson because it's easier to circumvent the tricks they employ. I understand Canon is an inexpensive printer to run also. HP and Lexmark are the costliest products to operate. There is a utility for Epson called SSC ver. 4.30 that gets around the safeguards by resetting the cart. chips and a whole lot more. Someone needs to write a utility for HP and Lexmark to replace the standard driver/ink monitors that are designed to siphon off our wallets quicker than they do ink. One more trick I've heard: when the printer is looking for a new cart have a spare cart handy and put it in in the printer. The printer will now think you have ink in the cart.(whether its empty or full) Now trying swapping it out for a refilled cart and see if that works. The point is this: the printer wants to see a new cart serial# ,not the same one that was just being used last.
