SOURCE: Canon IXY Digital 800 IS

Find a few Canon repair shops, and describe them your problem, and they should be able to give you rough estimates. I've had estimates for same mechanical problem from $200 to $15.

If you are adventurous (and the manufacturer's warranty is expired), remove all the tiny screws, and see if this is something simple, and you can tell repairman what specific part you need - their estimate will be more accurate that way.

SOURCE: PROBLEM WITH DIGITAL CAMERA CANON POWERSHOT S60

No need to fix it yourself. These symptoms sound very much like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon will fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways (the S60 is included). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status.

This is a worldwide advisory. The following gives example of the free repair within the US. For other regions, find the region support page through http://www.canon.com/ :

Please check the following two links for exmples on how to take advantage of the free repair:

Hello sir, i bought this camera 2 year before. it

This camera has a fault. You cannot fix it by changing settings. It will probably cost more to repair than it is worth now. You can buy a new camera which will be much better than a camera from two years ago and cost less money.

My Camera not taking pictures?

You mention that your camera has a moving LCD screen with 4 MP. Believe that you actually own a Powershot A80 instead of A480. This is important, because if this is so, Canon may fix this problem for you for free.

The symptoms sound like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free (if A80), including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.
