There are two ways to fix this:
First Solution - Clean the Absorber pads
The absorber pads is filled with waste ink. Access the printer to get these two absorber pads and clean it with soap and running water. After cleaning return it back. To access the printer, first open the top cover for the ink cartridge. The absorber pads are seated under the cartridge carrier, when the cover is open the cartridge carrier will move to the middle leaving the two absorber pads accessible. Use a tweezer to lift up the pads.
Second Solution - Reset the Printer to clear the error
1. Turn off the printer (but make sure power cable is plugged in wall outlet).
2. Press and hold down the Stop/Reset button
3. While holding the Stop/Reset button, press and hold down Power button.
4. While holding down the Power button, release the Stop/Reset button.
5. While still holding the Power button, press the Stop/Reset button twice.
6. Now release the Power button.. (wait until it display "service mode")
7. Press the Stop/Reset button four times
8. Turn off the printer
When you turn on again the printer it will surely works again.
Much appreciated if you could give a four thumbs up rating for this solution.
Thank you for using Fixya.
OMG!!!!! OMG!!!! You're a Genius!!!! I was contemplating buying a new printer after I saw the YouTube fix that meant taking the printer apart. Thank you soooooo much.
I, too, was contemplating a new printer. First Solution sounded messy so started with Second Solution -- it worked -- thank you, thank you!
Worked exactly as described. THANK YOU!
Solution 2 worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
Solution 1 and 2 worked perpectly, but what a mess. Wear gloves to clean the ink absorbers. I cleaned the printer one week ago and it works like it's brand new. Thanks for your help.
Solution 2 worked excellent. I did clean the ink absorber with a carburetor cleaner spray and light air pressure. that seemed to work well also. Moe.
I did the second option and it worked great. I am still going to do option 1 and clean them once I get a chance in my office. Thanks for the help!!!
This fixed my Canon MP 160, but here are some more details:
This fixed my Canon MP160 "Ink Aboserver is Full" problem but here are some more details. The ink absorbers are not under the cartridge carrier. They are at the right end of the printer, under where the cartridges lay at rest. Because I let the problem go on so long, the printer wouldn't slide the carrier over when I lifted the lid. The reset worked (thanks!) but the MP160 has no "service mode" display. After the reset the carrier would slide over like normal when I lifted the lid, allowing access to the absorbers. Then I cleaned the absorbers by just soaking up the excess ink with crumpled-up toilet paper. I didn't remove the absorbers..
Thank Danilo the reset worked great. Also, Thank you Ian for your comments, the exact same situation as you described happened to me as well. I also rolled up some toilet paper and laid it across both black and colored pads and applied some constant pressure with a pen. Worked just like Ian said it would.
Great solution, but, do you have a diagram or picture of where to find the ink absorber?
Thank you Danilo.
The fix worked successfully.
Much obliged.
Regards, Reg.
