I just purchased a Dell Inspiron i570 computer. I hooke my HP C3140 up to it. It shows as my default printer but the status shows as offline. How do I change it to online?

Offline means the printer is off. You should check printer to see if it is off, then turn it back on. If it is already on, check the cable (usually usb printer cable) to make sure the cable is securely plugged in to computer and and to printer. You might also need to reboot your Dell printer too. After all these, but printer still says offline, you might need to delete that printer in control panel, printers and faxes and reinstall again. If this is a case, you need to follow the printer installation correctly for it to work. Let me know if I can further help.
Thanks

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

In Vista make sure you are logged in as a administrator whenever you make any changes.

And if not to bring the printer online you will have to right click on the printer icon and right click on Run as administrator> and then try bringing the printer online and checdk if it works.

And you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer it is a default printer icon installed if in case you did not have a printer installed you can store them to print later.
Now that you already have a printer you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer.

Good Luck

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

Good Day,

One thing you can try instead of deleting the doucment writer is to change the default printer. You can do this by right-clicking on the HP printer icon and selecting "set as default" from the drop down box. Also try turning the printer off and back on aswell as restaring the computer if you have'nt already. Did that printer ever work from that computer? How is it wired, by "switcher" do you mean a shared printer through you network(was printer sharing configured properly), or an A-B printer switch. Please clarify

Hope this helps for now

Status: offline/online

Hi,

One way to make the printer go "on-line":
1. opening your "Printer & Faxes", the HP DeskJet F380 would be shown as an installed printer, by doing a right click, you would be presented with various options including making it go online.

There are two (2) areas that you can configure to make it stay always online:
i. in the same "Printer & Faxes", right click on the HP DeskJet F380, click on "Properties", in the next window click on the Advanced tab, tick "Always available", set Priority to "1", in the "Printer" tab, uncheck "Power Save".
ii. open your "Device Manager" (right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, click on "Hardware" tab, click on "Device Manager" button. Expand your "Universal Serial Bus controllers" (click on the + sign of the last entry), right click on each and everyone of your "USB Root Hub". Click on "Properties", click on "Power Management" tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
After each and every re-configuration it is of course required that you click on Apply/OK.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
