My lexmark 4300 series says incorrect port detected

Do you hear the connect/disconnect sounds when you plug the USB cable into your computer? If you do not, then the system is not recognizing the printer USB port.

Here is what I would do:
1. In the Devices and Printers section of the control panel, right-click on the printer icon, and select printer properties, then select the Ports Tab. Delete any ports connections for the printer. There could be several for the same printer.
2. Uninstall all Lexmark drivers.
3. Make sure that the printer does not show up in the Devices and printers under control panel. If the printer still shows up, remove the device by right-clicking on the icon, and select Remove device.
4. Reboot the computer.
5. Re-install the printer software. The software should detect the printer on the USB port.

It could be due to the USB port selected on your computer. Please refer to Communication Not Available' Error Message and Print Job Stalls in Print Queue.

This printer and this software (on your laptop) want to hold hands directly ... not through a proxy. You have solved your own issue ... plug the Lex into the new computer.

Suggest that you uninstall the printer - then reinstall it... that should fix the corrupted software issue that you may be having.....

Installing like this Lexmark are Plug in Play, Windows automatically detected such devices connected on it. If not then try to use another USB Connector to see which is the problem occur or might be your printer too...

According to Features and Specs on Lexmarks website, this is a All in One? i.e Fax, Printer, Scan & Copy? also it's a Network type?

If so have you chosen the correct settings via the Printers Dispay and Control Panel? ...... I assume you have and everythinh in Device manager looks good, i.e no Yellow and or Red Icons over anything listed there, especially USB....correct?

If your Vista is the 32 Bit then the driver file should be: cjb5000enOSS.exe (87.7MB)
If Windows Vista x63 then it will be: cjq5000enOSS.exe (132.76MB)

Try reinstalling the drivers for your printer. You should have a disk that came with the printer. If you don't then you will have to search the Dell website for the drivers. Once you have found them, reinstall them and see how that works out.

I'm assuming you're using Windows XP. If not, these directions may differ a little.

1. Click Start > Printers and Faxes.
2. Right-click on Lexmark X75, and then click on Properties.
3. Click on the Ports tab.
4. Find Lexmark X75 under the Printers column (or look for which item under the Port column is checked).
5. Chances are it somehow got changed to COM or LPT. Find any available USB port and check it. Click Apply.
   
6. Try to print. If it doesn't work now, you'll probably get a different error, something like "Cannot Communicate". If that happens, go back to theProperties window and try checking any other USB ports you see there. If there aren't any more to try, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to get it working.

3. THERE MAY BE THE PROBLEM WITH USB DRIVERS IN UR PC .

5. CLICK PROPERTIES AND THEN CLICK HARDWARE N GO TO DEVICE MANAGER
6. UNINSTALL ALL USB PORTS AND THEN SCAN FOR HARD WARE CHANGES
7. UR PC WILL DETECT UR PRINTER N ASK FOR PRINTER DRIVERS
8. RELOAD DRIVERS N UR PC WILL COMMNICATE WITH UR PRINTER.
