Plug a network cable from your PC Network connector directly into your Cable or DSL modem port. Do you have internet? Does it stay up? If no check your PC's network settings or call provider. If yes connect your router into your modem. The cable goes to the WAN or Internet port on your router not a port numbered 1-4. Plug your PC into one of the 1-4 ports. Do you get internet? If no check your routers settings by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address line of a browser. You probably want the default settings which is DHCP and get an IP automatically. If yes try connecting wireless to your router with a phone or tablet. Do this byy going to settings on your device, turning on the wireless and picking your routers name from the list displayed. If you are asked for a password and know what it is enter it. If not you will have to default the router to an open state and try again. Do this by holding down the reset button on the back of the router. So do you have wireless internet? If not check the wireless settings on the router by logging into the router and going to the Wireless tab. Select open or no security until you can hit the internet with your wireless devices, change it later by selecting WPA2 and use your telephone number or something easy to remember. You can change your SSID to a different name or turn off the SSID broadcast if you want and change the password to get in to the router settings. If your mode choices are B or G or both select G only for faster performance. If your choices are B/G/N select auto. Select auto for channel unless you have s/w on a laptop that shows your signal strength. If you do you can set the channel for the best reception in the room you are in most. Move your router away from cement walls, cordless phones, microwaves, CRTs, stereo speakers. Try turning it 90 degrees each way.

May be it's showing limited or no connectivity on your wireless connection where it's trying to connect or may be it's connected wirelessly but your wired connection is not communicating properly with router's switch, could be due to bad port on router or bad NIC or bad cable...check in your network connection.

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

What shall i do to have an access to internet?

Depending on where you are, you should normally need to subscribe with an internet provider. They will provide you with a modem/router for you to connect to your computer. Connection to your computer is normally directly to the router via a network cable or via a wireless network if this is available.

Some countries or establishments (cafe, libraries, etc.) offer free internet connections so if you do not need to connect from home and are an infrequent user, this option should suffice. The Sony Vaio should be capable to connect to any of the options above.

I have a NetGear Wireless Router which wont connect to internet.

Verify that you can connect to the internet without the router by hooking the cable from the dsl modem to your computers NIC.

If you can connect to the internet that way the problem is with the router. press and hold the reset button on the back of the router to reset it to the factory settings. (this just makes it easy to determine the problem) if this corrects the problem you can setup your security again

Limited connectivity error

You need to enter the security code on the router to tell the router it is safe to communiate with your computer. This is to prevent others from hijacking your signal from the router.

I went from a ATT dsl modem to a net gear modem and i cannot get the net ger mode and linksys mode to talk to the computer

Most DSL providers use PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) to establish Internet connections for end-users. To set up a Linksys router, you need to enable PPPoE on the router’s web-based setup page.
To setup a Linksys router with a DSL connection you need to perform four steps:
  1. Verifying Internet Connection
  2. Connecting the Devices Together
  3. Checking the LEDs
  4. Setting-up a DSL ISP on a Linksys Router
Verifying Internet Connection
Connect the Broadband modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If not, contact your Internet Service Provider.

FM114P and W311 ( cannot connect )

You have to log in to the router and set the WEP phrase and then use the same phrase on the computer to connect. Exactly how you do it depends on how the router is set up and what operating system you are using on your computer.

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
