Here are a couple of notes I found on the printer:
Before printing on paper other than envelopes, make sure that the levers inside the rear cover are pulled up. Leaving the levers lowered can cause print quality problems when printing on paper other than envelopes.
If you set [Paper source tray:] to [Auto Tray Select] on the [Setup] tab in the printer properties dialog box, the machine selects the tray automatically. (I imagine you'd have to enter printer Properties or Settings and choose a tray there.)
The printer will not print from any tray if tray one is pulled out. the paper path from any other tray still goes through tray 1\'s feed path (little slit in the front of the tray). if tray one is not in the printer it will not pull from any other lower tray.
You must specify the "default" tray. The mfp tray is usually same as tray one. The next lower tray would then be tray two. You can go thru the menu on the printer to paper handling, and/or set this to tray 2 in the print driver on your computer.
Go to Control Panel > Printers > and choose the printer you want to change. Right click on the printer and choose Printing Preferences. Under Paper Options > Size, choose Letter 8.5 x 11 inches. Then look for Source and change it to automatic or Tray 1. Hit Apply and close. That should restore the default to letter size.
make sure the software you are printing from is selecting the lower tray. When you get the print dialog box go to the options settings and select the lower tray as the source.
nstructions
Use the following steps to ensure that you are ready to print envelopes.
Your printer can have either a single envelope or multiple envelopes loaded and ready for printing.
If
you are printing a single envelope, you can use the single envelope
slot and leave your paper in the lower (IN) tray. This allows you to
print the envelope and then a letter.
If you are printing a stack of envelopes, use the lower (IN) tray for loading the stack of envelopes.
To Load a Single Envelope
Do not remove the paper from the lower (IN) tray. Be sure the card
guide is in the down position, before using the single envelope slot.
Remove a single envelope from its packaging.
Slide the envelope evenly into the single envelope slot. The single
envelope slot is located on the right side of the upper (OUT) tray. The
envelope should be loaded with the address side down (flap side up).
Make sure the creased flap edge of the envelope aligns with the right side of the single envelope slot.
Slide the envelope through the slot until it stops. Make sure the envelope is not bent and is straight in the envelope slot.
NOTE:
To minimize print skew, use envelopes with rectangular flaps rather than triangular flaps.
To Load Multiple Envelopes
Slide the paper width adjuster to its leftmost position.
Pull out the paper length adjuster and remove any paper from the IN tray.
Remove up to 20 envelopes from their packing and tap the short edge of the envelopes on a flat surface to even the stack.
Slide the envelopes evenly into the IN tray, address side down (flap side up).
Slide the paper width adjuster to the right until it gently touches the left edge of the envelope stack.
For size Invitation A2 and C6 Envelopes, press the inside of the paper length adjuster handle to release and lower it.
For all sizes of envelopes, push the paper length adjuster in toward
the envelopes until it stops. Make sure the envelopes are flat in the
lower tray and not bent.
Set up the Printer Properties
Select Start on the taskbar. Choose Settings, then Printers. Right-click the printer. Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
Select the Paper or Setup tab depending on the version of the printer driver software.
In the Paper Options section, select the desired envelope size from the Paper Size drop-down box.
Click OK.
Print
Print the envelope from your chosen program. From most applications, just select the File menu, then choose Print.
After Printing the Envelopes
Reset the printer and the printer properties for the kind of printing you will be doing next.
Remove any remaining envelopes from the lower (IN) tray.
Slide the paper width adjuster to its leftmost position.
Load the desired paper into the lower (IN) tray.
On the computer, Select Start on the taskbar. Choose Settings, then
Printers. Right-click the printer. Select Properties from the pop-up
menu.
Select the Paper or Setup tab depending on the version of the printer driver software.
In the Paper Options section, select the desired paper size from the Paper Size drop-down box.
