How to fix Canon MP140 series printer-USB001 when ink absorber is full?
Canon said I need to take it for servicing, and such centers are hundreds of miles apart so I thought I would try and see if I could fix it myself. I turned the printer upside down to see how to get at the internal, and SHAZAM! color ink spilled all over the insides. Problem solved - surely the ink absorber was no longer "full" since it spilled out :-) Anyway, if you WANT TO GET AT THE INSIDES you should NOT turn the machine upside down but do two simple steps: (1) pull off the front black plate - there are four "clips" you can find and get them to release (the piece is fragile but not critical).and (2) remove the right-hand cover, as follows: (a) remove 2 screws in back and 2 screws on the front vertical surface.that you exposed in step 1. Then you can remove the right hand plastic side. I ended up "sponging out" ink with cheap paper towels, but I don't know how much was sponged versus spilled so maybe spilling is necessary.. NOW NOTE: I haven't printed many copies since. But I did have the absorber exposed to air overnight, as well as two half-used cartridges, and the printing works OK.
