No HP devices detected. HP Solutions Center will close now. beware spam number 1800-975-0148 below

Hi everyone. Anyone have a solution to the "No HP devices detected. HP solutions Center will close now" problem? I'm still using my HP OJ 7410 All in One via Ad-hoc w/less connection. Been having this prob since like forever and was hoping someone could throw out a few ideas that might help. Much appreciated.

Thank you oldnovii. I'm sorry I didn't explain more in my problem description. I should've mentioned that by using the w/less ad hoc connection, I am still able to print. I'm not too fussed about the fax features as I have separate faxing machine but I am able to photocopy as well. To scan though, I must gain access to the HP Solution Center program provided but I keep getting the problem message and the program closes by itself. It seems that the problem persists even when I try scanning manually via the file location - something to do with "The HP imaging device could not be initialized because it was not found or there might be a device conflict". Something like that. I can't remember the actuall words.

I appreciate your help and all but after doing a bit of research online regarding this particular problem, it seems like there's a bunch of other people experiencing the same thing or somewhat similar problems with the HP printers.

Any advice is appreciated. Please help.

HP Officejet L7600. WinXP. Wired LAN. Installed CD software that came with printer. Print, copy & fax OK. No scanning with same error message: "The HP imagind device could not be initialized..." Tried all your suggestion to no avail. Unistalled software and tried to load latest driver from HP. It won't even complete intall. Says it can't find network printer even when the older version did. Does HP stand for Have Patients? I'm flat out. Any suggestions?

I have an HP officejet J5730. When I attempt to open the "hp solution center" the following message shows up: "no hp devices have been detected. Hp solution center will close now"

  • lpurpuro Apr 23, 2008

I've had it confirmed from HP that the cause is IE7.0. The Solution Center software will not run if you're using IE7 but works fine with IE6. Microsoft and HP are supposedly working on an IE patch to resolve this.

I'm so disgusted with HP tech support and the struggle to resolve this issue that I'm actually buying another printer.

  • angel nest Apr 27, 2008

    hello you all,

I'm having the same problem of course. Just spent 110minutes with hp tech support in live chat and got no solution for it. We concluded with the tech saying that he'll escalate it and someone will email me in 2-3 days. for anyone interested in trying what the tech suggested - in case it might work for you - i'm inserting the chat below. i'm in a state of disbelief right now that this is such a pervasive problem (according to my google search on the topic). literally thousands of users, and posts have been logged about this and still NO REAL solution is identified by anyone and particularly not by HP !

    How is that even possible?

Where are all the amazingly brilliant software engineers/hackers and problem solvers out there??? How come none of them are on these lists solving the unsolvable?

I'm so frustrated I could leterally choke someone to death right now!

I use the HP Photosmart C7280. The printer came with version 9 software, but I downloaded the new version 10 software for Windows Vista from the support section of the HP website.

I did a level 3 uninstall of the version 9 software by inserting the original software CD, cancelling all auto-installation prompts, then opening run and executing the following line:

e:\Util\CCC\Uninstall_L3.bat (remember to use the letter of the drive your CD is in)

if it doesn't do it for you, restart your computer

This uninstalled everything and fixed previous upgrade problems where the software would hang at 96% and never finish.

So, I ran the full installation for version 10 and everything went fine. Based on an HP support recommendation, I made sure that the network ip addresses were set manually. You do this on the printer on the set up menu via, network settings, IP address, then select manual. After doing so, I had to re-add my printer by going to the printer screen and selecting add device.

So, it prints fine now, but I still cannot scan, I get the same error....no hp device detected.

HP tech support could not help, but you can use webscan if you type in the IP address of your printer into the address bar of your web browser. This will open up the network webpage for your printer. Under the first tab, information, you'll see applications-webscan.

At least this captures the image so that I can right-click it and save it to my computer.

I have the same problem using HP Photosmart 2710 and Dell M1330
it worked at first but then ceased to work.

I was blaming Windows Vista as it works fine with XP with all the other computers in the house but it could be a combination of IE7 and windows Vista.

I wasted hours on the uninstall and install malarky to now avail.

The solution that works for me is web scanning.

Get your printer properties and then plug the ip address into a webbrowser and select scan.

It is better than the so called "Solution Center" in that it allows you to name your file instead of forcing a default numbering system on you.

However the largest scan it seems to offer is "letter" and it does not offer A4 or the ability to adjust downwards to any size.

It appears their are issues with HPSC in newer OSs:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c0...

I'm not sure if HP is even supporting HPSC anymore. Perhaps you can use this instead (appears to be HP's new one):

    Good luck to everyone.

By this time, I may be an expert on this particular problem(that's a joke because anybody having this problem KNOWS that nobody has a solution, even, and especially HP). Sometimes you put so much time into something that it becomes personal(or stupid). But I did resolve this problem and I have done it 3 times(not by choice) so I feel this will work.

First and foremost, for anybody considering HP. Don't. Their hardware seems OK, but the software and support is awful. Don't even waste your time calling them.

Second, this is a painful process. Some that know better about registry updates may have a better solution, but I did it the hard way. So plan on spending a few hours to get through it.

Third, I don't know if this is important or not but buy a registry cleaner program. I used Registry Mechanic from PC tools. I am certainly not touting that product and I found some issues with it, but it's just what I used.
Fourth, this process works. But I'm going to be somewhat vague because I'm so tired of working on this issue that I don't want to take the time to provide exact detail. However, anybody that knows anything about Windows will understand this.

Here is the magical process(I have a HP 7680, but I think it will be the same for all models)
a) Uninstall the #?!!!$! HP software using the Uninstall from Control Panel.
b) Download the latest HP software for your printer from their site.
c) Run the Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 Uninstall programs in the CCC folder of the software you just downloaded from HP(or, on the HP CD if you cannot download the latest version).
d) Scan your hard drive and delete any and all HP folders, including the "Hewlett Packard" folders. PLEASE NOTE: You probably will not be able to delete some folders because files are in use. You must delete these folders. Either reboot in safe mode to delete them, or shut off all services in msconfig(reboot required).
e) Delete the Twain32 folder in Windows folder
f) Empty the Recycle bin(probably not important, but I was taking no chance)
g) This would now be a good time to run your registry cleaner. This program should remove all registry entries that point to files that don't exist anymore. Registry Mechanic did not do this completely for whatever reason, but this should make the next step
h) backup your registry. The way I did this was "Start", "Run" and type msconfig. Click "Launch System Restore" and "Create a Restore Point". Do this, but be warned that there were a few times I tried to restore to one of these and the Windows process was unsuccesful. Didn't investigate why, but it happened, and more than once.
i) now the time consuming part. You are going to delete at least many hundreds of entries so get comfortable. Open the registry edito(regedit) and start scanning for these values. When you find them, delete the entire key, not just the key value(i.e. delete the folder on the left side of the regedit window). Sometimes you will get access denied. Just right click on the key and click "Permissions". Change the "Everyone" group to have full permission, then delete the key. This doesn't happen often - maybe 10 times? Also, please note that sometimes you will see that where the value was found, it has nothing to do with HP and so I left them alone. I would estimate 99% of what I found, I deleted. Believe me, you'll get good at this and your eyes will quickly identify the fact it's from an HP installation.
During this scan process, you will find reach a point where on the left side of regedit, there are dozens of folders that start with HP, all lined up nicely. Delete ALL of them.
1) Scan for and delete any folder(key) that contains "\hp". This is the hard one. Hundreds of them. (why didn't these get deleted by my registry cleaner program???)
2) Scan for and delete any key that contains "AIO"
3) Scan for and delete any key that contains "hp " (that is hp followed by a space. The search function allows this
4) Scan for and delete any key that contains "digital imaging"
5) Scan for and delete any key that contains "hewl"
j) almost there, and don't mess this part up. Make sure your printer is NOT connected. Reboot.
k) Reinstall using latest version. During installation, choose that you don't want HP software to check for updates and also, check the "custom" installation. When you reach the screen that lets you pick which programs to install, uncheck ALL of them that you can. You only want to install what is required. The rest is JUNK. When you reach the point where it wants to find the printer, do NOT hook the printer up. The software will assume you will hook it up later. Finish the installation and reboot.
l) run the install again. This time the menu will say "Add a device". Go ahead and click on that and hook up your printer(use USB). I did discover on one of my trips through this maze that it found the printer and installed it nicely, BUT, when I started HP Solution Center, it did not display the device. Then I ran Setup again, tried to install it as a network printer(cabled-not wireless). This failed but then, there it was the next time I opened Solution Center!! The process of trying to install network printer fixed something so don't give up once you get this far.
m) Good luck with this. I feel for all the people out there that just can't afford to go buy another printer. Again, I wouldn't touch HP with a mile long stick. The only reason I wouldn't give up is I was PISSED. I actually did this for somebody else, but I work for this person, so felt obligated to solve it. And I have HP printers at home, but, after researching this issue on the Internet and seeing what all of you have written, I will never buy HP again.

FINALLY!!!! AFTER 7 RE-INSTALLS I HAVE IT. SOLUTION # 3 WORKS, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT RIGHT.

1. you need to do a full uninstall and install. Use the L3 uninstall. If you dont know where to find it... Hit Start> Search> all files and folders. type ".bat" in the all or part of file name. Search your C Drive.
2. Disconnect your Printer and Run L3 uninstall
3. After uninstall is complete it is going to prompt you to restart... go ahead and restart.
4. Go to C:\Program Files\HP or Hewlett-Packard (for some older products) and delete the folder Digital Imaging.
5. Go to C:\WINDOWS and rename the twain_32 folder to twain_32 old.
6. start> run> type in "regedit"
7. file>export> name it regedit restore and then save on your desktop (just in case you screw something up
7. remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Hewlett-Packard / digital imaging
8. remove all other registry keys associated with your printer or scanner under Hewlett-Packard... there is a description of the key to the right under the "data" field.
9. RESTART COMPUTER... i dont know if you have to do this, but i did and mine worked.
10. TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL AND ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
11. Re-Install your software. I recommend going with the full version and do everything HP "recommends" you do.
12. When I finished the install... I didnt get the old "Solution Center" any more. I got the "HP Director". I was discouraged, but then learned that all of the functionality was present in the HP Director, so I assumed it was a replacement over teh old Solution Center.

I hope this works for somebody and saves them time. I have been working on my issue since Friday non-stop... probably invested about 10 hours on these blogs and with tech support. BTW... dont waste your time with HP. Every Tech I worked with was impatient, less than friendly, and not very smart. This is the last HP product I will own. When my Pavilion and 7410xi dies... I will move on to bigger and better things no matter the cost.

Thanks a bunch jarrod; your suggestions worked for me. For some unknown reason, I started to get the HP device not detected when attempts were made to access my HP deskjet F4180 through the HP Solution Centre. I wasted a lot of time tryin to solve the problem until insights were gained from reading these various posted suggestions.

I think I figured this whole mess out...!!!
It is Vista, more specifically Windows Defender.
My steps
Uninstall HP
restart
Turn off All anti virus
Turn off Windows Defender
- tools>options> uncheck "Use real-time protection" (scroll down)
Turn off Printer
Re install using the CD
turn on printer when it asks for USB or wireless... wait a few minutes
All this took 5-10 min, ofcourse after weeks of trouble shooting!lol
Turn antivirus back on and defender( you may need to tell defender to allow HP Solution center
Good Luck. I hope this works for everyone

joshwest's solution worked for me. I have a C6180 All in One and I was using AVG free and Windows Firewall but not defender but had same "no hp devices detected" when trying to open solution center to scan. Printer is setup wireless through a Linksys WRT54G.
    All i did was:
    1. Uninstalled all software using full software package available on HP's support site
    2. Restart when prompted
    3. Disable the antivirus in AVG by double clicking icon in notification area (or open the AVG User interface through the programs list, or go into windows security center) double click resident shield icon and uncheck resident shield active icon.
    4. Disabled the firewall through windows security center (Control Panel => Security Center)
    5. Ran the same install software that i used to uninstall. I did custom settings because to avoid having the product buying assistant installed which is so annoying
    6. Printer was already configured to connect to the wireless router so just had to turn it on and the software found it. If it doesn't find it but you know it's connected to the router you can search by ip address I believe, which for me was 192.168.1.102
    7. Setup completed and I can now run solution center and have successfully scanned wirelessly.

    Thanks joshwest.

I have a PhotoSmart 7250 and have it wired USB to a Vista machine, and wirelessly to LAN from which both a Mac and an XP machine print.
To scan from XP/wireless, try this: from your browser enter http://yourprinteripaddress and access webscan on the left hand menu. I'm not sure it's available from your OJ but it works fine from my printer.

I have a HP psc 1315 with the same problem .. try to open HP Solution Center and get "No HP devices found". Tried #3, worked like a charm, except I got "HP Solution Center" back instead of "HP Director", don't know why, and don't care, I'm just happy it works. And what's been said about hp support, believe it ... they ****. When I called they just wanted to sell me a new printer. Good luck!

  • Anonymous Jul 05, 2009

Update from "Hard Headed". I can't remember if I tested my scanner after using solution # 3, but at any rate ... printer worked fine, solution center opened, but got error when I tried to scan. Not exactly sure what part of the following procedure solved both my problems, but here's whan I did.

    1. Uninstalled my printer sofware.

    2. Used my Norton registry cleaner.

3 . Peformed a search, and removed all I could fine related to hp.

    4. Used regedit, local machine, deleted entire HP folder.

    5. Reinstalled only necessary software.

Note: Printer worked, HP Solution Center would open, but when I tried to scan, I got an error; so I sad what the heck ... and installed updates, and low and BEHOLD! Everything is working just fine.

    Good luch guys.

Does your SYSTEM see the printer. Check in installed printers. Also, on your printer, press the setup button and go through the menu til you get to network setup.Press ok. You want the option that says " Print Network Settings". Make sure on the printout that it says it has the correct ip address you or your router gave it. If it does, try powering down, then powering up your printer. If none of this works try this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00506935&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=391194 for just installing your wireless unit. If it worked b4, try the power down option first. If none of this works, uninstall your HP printer software COMPLETELY and re-install. Will check back later to see if this helped.

Hi there I had the very same problem with with HP Solution Centre using a HP C5280 Photosmart all in one, after many conversations with HP techs who although attentive were unable to solve my problem but I was determined to solve my problem - I like the scanning facility of this product.

Coincidentally I had upgraded CA Internet Security Suite, so I contacted them told them of my problem, I was asked to disable my firewall and to see if HP Solution Centre now worked - and yes it did - then I was asked to execute the following:

Click on Start->Run and type in devmgmt.msc and click on OK you will see Device manager open, click on View and then click on Show Hidden devices, then click on the + next to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and find KmxCF, Right click on KmxCf and select Properties and then click on Driver on the top, Change the Type to Demand and click on Ok, and do the same to KmxFW and click on Ok and then close the device manager and restart the computer once for the changes to take effect. Also reenable the firewall, it now works fine.

I thought that perhaps this may be of help to someone with a similar problem. Regards Nyaa

It appears their are issues with HPSC in newer OSs:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04740294

I'm not sure if HP is even supporting HPSC anymore. Perhaps you can use this instead (appears to be HP's new one):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/hp-scan-and-capture/9wzdncrfhwl0

Good luck.

I am running Windows 7 Home Edition with MS Essentials virus software. I also have CCCleaner installed. I have s C2580 Smartprinter. The HP printer came with Vista software so I had to download Windows 7 drivers from HP. Solution Center will not recognized to printer except through a UBS port. It will not set up a wireless printer.
Here are the steps.
1. Unistall all HP printer drivers and software.
2. Run CCCleaner files and registry cleaner.
3. Reboot machine and let the system reinstall the printer.
3. Save and run V13 of HP printer driver from hp.com
4. When running the installation software request the installation of a wireless printer. When you finish you will see two printers.
5. Go into printer properties of the HP installed printer and change the port(s) to the port(s) used by the printer installed by the system. The printers will now look like one.
6. Download and install V14 of the Solution Center.
7. When finish the Solution Center should find the printer.
8. Go to the printer control panel and verify that the printer is using the port(s) set up by Windows.
9. Restart the computer and verify that the printer is found by the Solution Center.

That is the way I was able to use a wireless print on my laptop.
Good Luck!

After several hours, many reinstalls and working with registry keys to no avail I found a solution right where it should have been: My solution was running the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows (hppiw) program from HP. This is a utility I found in the software and driver downloads for my Officejet 4500. I ran the program and it checked my faulty installation then downloaded the correct software and everything is fine.

Maybe my problem with my all in one will give you a hand........

To HP: I've been pestering your tech folks both on chat and on voice.....nobody seems to be able to find the solution to HP Solutions Center not detecting the device (officejet 6500 all in one) on 64 bit Win 7 when it did work on Vista.....the printer is installed and it prints and scans but I cannot use the OCR or any of the HP Solutions Center features because it does not detect the device.....I've been on every forum this side of China and tried every solution that exists.....regediting, uninstalling HP Sol Ctr and reinstalling it, stopping my anti-virus stuff, stopping my firewall, standing on my head....disconnecting the USB cord and making it a network printer with an ethernet cord.....you name it I did it.....it hurts when I'm in the business and cannot seem to solve this ....THEN....repeat THEN..one day, I cannot get my internet....I call support to refresh my modem and she asks nicely, "do you have a wireless router"....."uh-huh"....disconnect the power cord and count to ten and then reconnect it....okay.... but while I'm doing this, all of a sudden, I begin getting installation and config windows from HP.....I didn't do anything to initiate this....ah-hah I says, is this where the install was hung up for HP Sol Ctr? My internet comes back and I try HP Solutions Center and no more rejects about can't detect device....I now have HP Solutions Center and all is right with the world.......spread the word, we have another solution amongst the thousands for this madness!!!......

Solution #4 worked for me. Once I downloaded the package from HP's website with Mozilla Firefox instead of IE7, everything is working like a charm! I even have my antivirus and pest patrol software running alongside it.

I use a HP L7680 AIO, HP laptop w Windows XP, and running NORTON ANTIVIRUS/FIREWALL. Had the same problem since new and recurs after reinstall. The solution is SIMPLE, BUT VERY ANNOYING AND TIME CONSUMING.

1) Download Latest Driver/software from HP Full suite. Save to Desktop!
DO NOT RUN/OPEN IT YET!! PATIENCE!!!
2) Next, Disconnect printer cable and power cable (unplug it from back of printer) (PS unplug fax line also)! Simply try the Add/Remove programs and remove all programs associated with your printer (ie software that came with it)!
You may use the L1, L2, L3 uninstall utilities (NEVER had to use L4, and it is NOT recommended)...Restart Computer!
3) Then use/run Registry cleaner. (Previous posts describe how to manually remove associated registry entries if you don't have Registry cleaner--If not sure Don't Delete! Remember Less is More!)...Restart computer!
Honestly don't know if truly necessary, but it works each time!
4) Now, this is ANNOYING, BUT NECESSARY...Uninstall Norton antivirus software!! DISABLING ONLY DOES NOT WORK!! You may want to unhook from the internet while unprotected....Restart Computer!
5) Now open the HP software that you downloaded and follow instructions, Yea, go ahead and install the full suite...Do not connect printer cable or power on printer until told to do so.
6) Still be patient there is still a slight delay at the 96% point, but not the usual FOREVER hangup that usually happens. It should have installed fine now and bring you into a fax setup stage, continue as appropriate for your needs...I recommend letting the fax run its test..When succesfull, You'll be much happier (Don't forget Now plug in fax/telephone line)....Why not ...Restart Computer.
7) Now REINSTALL Norton software! Reconnect to internet and check for all appropriate updates!!

Yes, Believe it or Not!! It is a conflict with the Antivirus/Firewall software during install. AGAIN..TEMPORARILY DISABLING IT DOES NOT WORK!! TRUST ME...IF YOU WANT A CLEAN PRINTER / SOLUTION CENTER INSTALL...THEN YOU MUST UNINSTALL YOUR NORTON ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE.
( I will assume this may be necessary for other Antivirus Software; Turn off Microsoft Windows Firewall applications, as the HP software clearly states a warning that if you use said antivirus/firewall apps to allow the install to continue when prompted. This is the problem, the programs conflict during installation.)

Like everyone else I have tried multiple times to solve this problem without success. My AIO is an HP Officejet Pro L7680. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I finally solved it. My process was:
1. Uninstalled HP software using the original installation disk.
2. Discarded all HP folders on the hard drive.
3. Searched the registry for any and all references to hp or AIO and deleted them.
4. In the registry under HKey_Current_Config I opened the system folder. Opened the Control Folder. Opened the Printer folder. Opened the printers folder. I found multiple Icons for the L7680. I also found Icons for older HP printers that I have installed previously. I deleted all HP printer Icons.
5. I restarted my computer, turned off the firewall and reinstalled the HP software from the original disk.
6. It detected the L7680 on the first try.
7. Turned the firewall back on and all is well.
While I tried to solve this problem multiple times the only thing I did different on the successful attempt was to locate and delete all references to HP printers in the registry in the Printers folder.

Solution #7 was the most helpful to me- Once I uninstalled using L3 (on the CD under /util/ccc/), I deleted all HP folders, and went
into the registry and removed all mention of HP (the only HP product I have is the printer). The re-installation went incredibly smoothly, and now everything works.

Why don't they just say that you need the HP Solution Center in the first place?!? It is really amazing that you need to go through all this!

Another solution to wanting to repair HP Solution Center but not being able to uninstall it:

(having tried EVERYTHING else)

try a "scrubber" uninstall from CCC directory of CD/Download
also try HP Removal Utility from HP website (filename starts gr_...)
remove eveything you can from Add/Remove Programs/Programs&Software
Run Autorun from CD/Download to see if that gives you further uninstall options
run regedit
backup registry
goto local machine/software/hewlett packard and look for "installed products" entry
if there is corruption, data entries will say invalid
delete all relevant keys (probably all of them)
create system restore point
download, install and run Windows Cleanup Utility from Microsoft
remove any entries relating to HP - N.B. solution center doesnt have HP in its title, not does the digital imaging tray icon etc, so look carefully
reboot
run fresh install, you should be able to install new versions of everything over the top of anything in the HP folder - this took me 24 hours to work out!

After wasting countless hours following several people's solutions including HP's, I installed Scansoft Paperport for 40 bucks. Works great. You can download it from the web.

My hp 7410 would print & fax but not scan. I was able to scan by printing the network configuration page then typing the provided url into my web browser. I then got an office jet screen and just clicked on scan.

Here is a slightly different approach. Tried all above solutions and combinations, no result. Failure in install at the 96% On the very last attempt and too many wasted hours I was ready to throw the printer back to the supplier. I noted the comment how the drivers were not linking to the HP Director/Solution Centre software. Bingo! What fixed it for me was to do a L3 uninstall. Regedit to delete all lines containing HP and Hewlett-Packard. Use a registry cleaner CCleaner to analyze and remove registry problems. Manually delete HP and Hewlett-Packard folders. Get the drift? remove eveything pertaining to the AIO. I also find Revo Uninstaller good for a thorough clean. All this takes time. Reboot. As a precaution I reinstalled .NET at the ver2 for basic .NET functionality as a L4 uninstall stuffs .NET then download from the HP site the networking/IT experts only drivers file. Install that ie: drivers only and not from the provide CD nor the full software package. The drivers only will provide basic functionality for printing, fax and scan using the control panel icons, prove this is so then reboot. Then go back to the supplied CD, choose advanced install for only the Solutions software. Finally it moved passed the 96% failure point and completed the install. I now have full control via the Director/Solutions interface. At bloody last and it took too bloody long to get there. The hardware is great the Solutions/Director software is rubbish, but I do admit useful if working. Good luck and be prepared for a tiring battle.

Here's how my problem was solved..........

The error is probably due to IE7. Had the same error message and software hanging up at 94-96%. Downloaded Mozilla Firefox and then used it to download the latest program and drivers. Opened the program and had it uninstall HP products. Then opened the program again and did the installation; no problems, no hangups, scanner works fine, solution center works fine.

A

Anonymous

Hp solution center is the nwe version of the hp director, it means the hp directors is obsolete and the frustration center is the new version from HP ("H"ighly "P"roblematic) hehehe

A

Anonymous

This problem is caused when the hp installer does not connect the device drivers to the HP software, which takes place at the 96% of the installer. the only way to fix this issue is to re-add the drivers with the hp installer and in some cases re-installing the software altogether to ensure that you are not using an incompatible version of solution center.
make sure that the installer is not being stopped by an anti-virus or firewall.

Solution One: Check if Digital Imaging Monitor and HPZPML service is running
Check and see if you have HPQTRA08 and HPQSTE08 processes running
If you don’t see the above process, proceed to Bin Folder located under C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\ and Double click the file hpqtra08.exe. also check if the HPZPML service is running

Solution Two: Perform Level 2 Uninstall and reinstall
Run the file uninstall_L2 located on the HP disk in :/util/ccc/
(L2 removes the driver entirely, L3 removes most of the software, and an L4 removes the software and other system componets including .net framework, recomended to not run this level)
Re-add device with CD or downloaded installer
Solution three: Full uninstall and reinstall the HP software
Step One: Uninstall the software completely
Use the L3 uninstall and ensure that the following are removed
HP Imaging device functions
HP Document Viewer
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Image Zone
HP Photo and imaging gallery
HP Photosmart, Officejet, Deskjet, or Scanjet, (with product name and software version number)
HP Software update
HP Share to web
HP Solution Center
HP Director
HP Memories disk
Greeting Card Creator 32
Go to C:\Program Files\HP or Hewlett-Packard (for some older products) and delete the folder Digital Imaging.
Go to C:\WINDOWS and rename the twain_32 folder to twain_32 old.
Remove the following Registry Keys in regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Hewlett-Packard / digital imaging and remove entries with the printer in question, also remove "memories disk" and "scanjet" if it appears.

SOURCE: No HP devices detected. HP Solutions Center will close now.

Try a complete uninstall:

Unplug the USB cable from your PC.
[If it is a WinVista Operating System Then in Go to Start> Control Panel> Programs and features delete all the entries you see for HP.( If it promts a restart do not restart now)
Rest all steps wil be same as winXP]

If it is a WindowsXP Operating System then:

Go to Start> Control panel> Add or Remove programs. and delete all the entries you see for HP.( If it promts a restart do not restart now)
Then open my computer> C:drive> Program files> and delete the HP Folder only (not Hewlett Packard)
Then Open C:drive> Program files> Common Files and then delete HP and Hewlett Packard folder.
Then Go to C:Drive> Windows> Temp and empty the temp folder as much as you can.
Then go to Recycle bin and empty recycle bin.
Then Insert the All-In-One CD and cancel the installation process.
Open the content of the CD> and open Util folder> Then CCC> Then click on Uninstall_L4 and follow the on screen process.

After all restart the computer.

And if possible download the software from HP website:

For WinXp:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-49256-2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=3192753

Then click on download only and then follow the on screen instruction to install the All-In-One, ONLY PLUG THE USB CABLE WHEN PROMPTED DURING INSTALLATION.

Fo WinVista:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-49256-2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3192753

Then click on download only and then follow the on screen instruction to install the All-In-One, ONLY PLUG THE USB CABLE WHEN PROMPTED DURING INSTALLATION.

1. Try download HP Scan Diagnostic Utility by clicking this link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=oj-45265-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
Usually this kind of issue would be solve by this program.
Note : "Do not follow those troubleshooting that would be diagnose by this program because it will just waste your time"
2. If ever it is not resolve by this program uninstall the software for your printer by going to add/remove programs. Uninstall
HP Solution Center, HP Imaging Device Function, HP Printer Driver [depends on what printer model you are using]
3. Click on "Start" then "Contro Panel" then "Printers". If you see a printer icon for your printer delete it. Right click in anywhereu in the printer folder "do not right click on the printer icon". Then select "Server Properties". Click on the port tab and if you see an entry for your printer delete it "if you can't delete it. just leave it alone". Then click on drivers and if there is an entry for the printer driver delete it.
4. Uninstall the software of your printer using the cd. Do not click on the "uninstall" button of the cd software, just close it when it comes up. Right click on "My Computer or Computer" icon and select explore. Right click on the icon for the cd usually it would be a black HP icon and then select explore. Click on "util" folder
then click on "ccc" folder. If you do not have any other hp printer then click on uninstall l4 then Uninstall l3. If you have another HP printer then just click on uninstall l2.
5. Download the software of your printer in the HP website. Install the software.
6. If you still have the problem then the software of HP is having a compatibility issue with your computer

Solution one: Check connections and status

    1. Check to make sure that the device cables are connected securely at each end.
    2. Make sure the device is turned on and not in an error state. If unsure, turn the unit off and then back on again.
    3. Try to access the device through Solution Center again.
    4. If the device is still not detected, proceed to Solution two.

Solution two: Check that there is a printer icon in the printer folder

    1. Click Start and then Settings or Control Panel .
    2. Click Printers or Printers and Faxes .
    3. Make sure there is an icon for the printer you are trying to use.
      • If there is no icon and you are connecting via a USB cable, disconnect the cable, and restart the computer. Reinsert the HP software CD and choose Add a device . Connect the unit when prompted by the installer.
      • If there is no icon and it is a wireless connection, run the wireless setup wizard as outlined in the product setup guide, then reinsert the CD and choose Add a device .

It might help to uninstall the HP devices through the Device Manager, and then restart the computer. Let the computer try to detect the HP devices and install them and the drivers needed. You might want to have any software discs handy in case you have to reinstall any software that came with the printer, etc.
