If you can boot into safe mode using F8 goto add/remove programs and remove the newly installed Microsoft updates. if you cannot boot into safe mode, run windows repair

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter. Try turning on your laptop and if you still only get a flashing power button then try another AC Adapter. If the same thing happens then that means the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.
Check the Compaq/HP WEB site - download the latest drivers for the Windows version you are using. Sometimes the latest one does not work but the previous one will work. (I've come across this problem before and it is not confined to Compaq/HP)
remove battery plug in power...see what happens ...nothing happens press and hold power button until you hear response(shut down)press power as usual to boot.if it doesnt work first time try a few times more remember to keep power button pressed to shut down.

Top left button, above the keyboard, is Wireless On/Off.
If nothing happens, go to CONTROL PANEL / NETWORK CONNECTIONS. R-click on Wireless Network Connection. L-click DISABLE. Wait about 5 seconds, do it again and L-click ENABLE. That should reset the modem and get things going.

During the First Boot After Reflash Battery LED Did flash No Start, After pushing the power button again it Started. And has Every since.So Far Laptop Now Boots Everytime and CMOS Checksum Seems To Keep Time Correct In Windows. The Bios Flash Corrects a Voltage Spike Detecting Transistor In The Charging Circuit. During First Start after flash Bios will run system test on the charging system and Correct CMOS. Worked for Me Hope this Helps a Few.
