How do you empty the waste toner bottle? And where is it located?

then the clear section of the waste toner bottle is not clear some toner is left blocking the sensor that monitors the waste toner level

Your machine have 2 waste bottles.
The bottle 1 is placed in the front door. (See the picture). You can empty it or replace it.
(is less expencive to empty it)


The secund waste bottle is in the left. See this picture




Now, you just need to make sure what waste bottle is mentioned in the display.

Lets start with a reference,which will be standing in front of the copier. Ok,using this reference the waste toner bottle is located on the left side of the copier at the the lowest point of the left side almost at the back of the copier. If you have a stapler/finsher you will need to un-dock it from the copier and slide it away as far as possible, It need not be removed. Now you will have located a cover with one screw. Remove the screw and remove the cover.You now see the bottle.It has a handle so slide it out being careful not to spill it. You can of course pour the waste toner into a strong plastic bag,taking whatever cautions you see fit as you have one hell of a potential mess if not handled carefully.Once the bottle is empty, please notice the neck of the bottle. The way the copier "knows" the bottle is full is by sending a beem of infrared light thru the neck of the bottle. When the waste toner fills the bottle to the neck and blocks the beam of light the copier knows the bottle is full. My point is make sure you clean the neck of the waste toner bottle (if you look closely you will see the "windows" the light travels thru) by using a Q Tip or tissue. If the "windows" are clouded the copier will think the bottle is still full even though the bottle is empty. Does that make sense? In other words you could put a brand new waste toner bottle in the copier with black tape around the neck of the bottle and the copier would say the bottle is full.So now that its empty, and the neck is clean, replace the bottle and the cover.Turn off the "main power switch" located on the right side towards the rear of the copier.Wait a sec, turn it back on and you should be in good shape.Take care and let "FIXYA " know if I helped please. Open the right door,remove the transfre unit,remove the transfre belt unit.The waste toner collection bootle is located under transfer belt section.Remove 3 srews remove the case and use the vacuum cleaner to clean the waste toner empty.

Remove the small cover on the lower left hand side( one screw only) and remove the waste toner bottle and emptied it ensure that bottle neck is not clouded with toner otherwise even the bottle is empty still it will detect waste toner is full .hope this will help

I am not familiar with this model but usually Canon waste bottle has:

1. Check if the waste toner botlle has some clear portion near the neck, (as in IRC3200) or other part of the bottle ,even the waste toner was removed but if this portion is still clouded by toner the sensor will still detect the waste is full

2. If the situation is not like this some Canon Ir machine needs to reset waste toner counter in the service program mode even the waste toner bottle was emptied

You're going to get a little bit dirt with the trick, but there is no need to buy a empty waste toner bottel

Empty the waste toner bottle inside a plastic bag, the dust is kind of azard!!!, when the bottle is empty, clean it from the outside.
Place the bottle in the printer, (This is just for reference only), in the right side of the bottle you're going to see a plastic tag all dirty (You see it?) OK!!, remove the bottle from the printer, and then very carfully remove that plastic tag from the bottle taking care of not ripping it off, now clean the plastic tag, and put it in place again, and now your printer is ready to work!!!!!
Where's the trick?, The printer has a Photo sensor that is "looking" trugh this plastic tag, when the plastic tag is full of toner, the sensor can't get the signal, and then it says that the waste bottle is full..!!!

Open the front cover and locate the waste toner bottle. Empty it out and see if that corrects the problem. If that doesn't work, clean the bottle after emptying it. If the doesn't work, replace the waste toner bottle with a new one.

How does the copy quality look?

You need to replace the waste toner bottle (packaged with a new toner cartridge) you can't just empty it. There is a photo sensor that "reads" through a window of the waste bottle. The sensor could be dirty. Clean the slits with a q-tip.

Here's what I did.

Emptied the waste toner cartridge. Left it out of the machine. Held the microswitch (located to the right of the optical sensors) in the "cartridge in" position with a paperclip. Printed one document. Inserted the waste toner cartridge. Error now gone!
