The input jack is just that. It connects to the system board via a cable. The power adapter jack needs to be replaced.

Try connecting the drive to another pc with a usb adapter, create a partition and format it. Then put the drive back in the vaio and reinstall windows. This should fix the problem.

I am a PC Technician, I also happen to own a Vaio with this cool but very fragile power button. It will be okay to leave it like that.I had the same issue and I repaired mine because I have experience tearing down laptops. The labor to get to that little plastic piece is extensive. If the situation arises I can explain to you how to do this, ill even have pictures as it is nearly impossible to find service manuals for new Vaios. But it will be fine if it is a little loose.

My hinge broke on my Sony VAIO and the solution I found was to purchase the Service Manual for the laptop then take the laptop apart and find out which part number the hinge was. Then purchase the hinge directly from USA, which took 1 week to come through and mended the laptop myself.

Sony are doing this to everyone who has problems with the hinges of the laptops as they state the guarantee covers everything EXCEPT the hinges. If you can get proof from a pc repair shop that the hinges are a design flaw then Sony will repair it free of charge, but they will still request a Diagnostic fee which will be refunded if the problem you described turns out to be true.
