Door won't open on my front loading maytag washer

17 The door / cover switch has not been opened since the last two last revolutions. The door did not open after two complete washing cycles. The door switch has not been opened since the last two revolutions. Displays "od". If the door is open, the error disappears. Check the door lock probably bad.

Also you might need to reset it.

Press power/cancel then start/pause

1. Press power/cancel first.
2. Next, pick a fresh cycle to run.
3. Press start/pause to reset your Maytag washer.
4. Run a test load afterward to confirm that the washer has reset.

Try this:

Run an empty load and as soon as water has filled and the washer begins to run, open the washer door (probably have to pause the washer via the control panel) and add 3 - 4 cap fulls of regular bleach. If you don't have regular bleach, you can try vinegar. After cycle completes, open washer and wipe the entire gasket with an old towel.

When washer is not in use, prop the door open so the inside can fully dry.

After getting no response from FixYa, because it told me that my session had ended, and I hadn't even started, I called a local repairman! I had better not be charged for your service, as you site is faulty and gave me no assistance or info, just seemingly took my money.

it sounds like you have broken the switch which keeps the door latched when not in use as well as locks when the washer is started. These latches often fail when someone forces the door open to add more clothes without pushing the pause button AND waiting until the "locked" light goes off. Older children and teens and yes, uninformed men, are apt to do this. You will need a repair person.

I would check to make sure the connectors to that door lock are all connected. If they are it's probably the lock/switch mechanism itself. Wow I just checked and they are about $120. The p/n is wh10x10006 You can google around for the best price. Good luck!

I don't know if you are aware of this, but Maytag did a recall on this washer in March 2007 where there was a risk of water leaking into the control panel and shorting out the board. You can follow this link to see if your washer was affected based on the serial number:

I found this on the Maytag site:

Is the door locked and the Add A Garment or Add Clothes light off?
If the Add A Garment or Add Clothes light is off, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Off or Pause/Cancel button is pressed twice. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high-water level in the washer, high-water temperature, tumbling or spinning. It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.

You could also try their customer service number to see if they have a script for this problem: 1-800-688-9900

The only other solution I can offer is to disassemble your washer if its that urgent and you can't get a repairman out there.

the start button is part of the board their.if you hear frying noise their when pushing it there ,you may have a failling board.god bless your way.Tom
