The wireless router needs its wireless settings configured and also the wireless card in all the laptops needs to be configured with the router’s wireless settings so the laptops can communicate with the wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

SOURCE: No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

Lost internet connection morning of 1/15/08 through router and directly through laptop 1. But, can get internet connection directly for laptop 2 and laptop 3! Cannot get a valid IP address anymore when laptop 1 is directly connected. Also, I discovered ping works for any lettered website even when the router is not connected to the wall, but correctly times out for a numbered website (eg 216.31.156.10). Completely stumped. Please help!

SOURCE: Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

I can see the network but I can't connect to the internet

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, it works. That means the modem and the Internet is working but the router is not working.
I believe you can try to reset the router and reconfigure the router.
Open the setup page of the router and change the settings manually according to the Internet service provider.
May be you will also need to upgrade the firmware of the router.

I just starting using this wireless router and when I set it up the router software keeps saying I don't have a connection to the internet but I'm on the internet on that computer right now. ...

Make sure that there is not direct connection between your desktop and modem ( USB ). If there is any USB connection from the modem to the computer then it will go on linee but the router will not be on line.
Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

No internet on PC when cables going through router

Hello there,

You have to start from the beginning and my solution would be:

1) Remove any connections(also don't forget to turn of wifi on your laptop) to router and except the power cord. With the unit powered ON locate the reset pinhole on the back of router.

2) Press and hold reset button for at least 15 secs. then release, wait for 20-30 secs. before the router can completely rebooted.

3) Configure your Computer IP address to “Obtain an IP address automatically” .

4) Connect internet cable to router on port labeled "WAN". Connect PC to any LAN ports available.

5) Now lets configure wireless router. Open any browser you have (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.). On the address bar type: "192.168.1.1" (without quotes). Default username: admin ; default password: admin click "OK".

6) Go through "SETUP WIZARD" until you reach the "Setup WAN Interface" page. On "WAN Access Type:" select "DHCP" then click next.

7) You may configure your "Basic Wireless Settings" to Public or Private until finished configuring.

8) On "Operation Mode" be sure you operate on "Gateway" mode.

That's it! Hope this helps.

If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Rangemax-internet only works when comp directly connected via LAN

it sounds like you have the wireless connection to the WAN disabled. Go through the wireless settings on the router and check to make sure it's not being blocked from the WAN/Internet connection.

No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

-Connect your router to the wall and connect your laptop to the router using a cable.
-Use Internet Explorer and type the following line in the address bar: http://192.168.0.1
-You should see a Username and Password Screen...type admin for the username and leave the password blank, unless of course you did give it a password.

-Click on the WAN button on the left side of the screen
-Now you should see the WAN Settings Screen
-Click on "Dynamic IP Address" (You should not use PPPoE)
-Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.
-Now close your browswer and restart your computer.
-You should now be able to access the Internet...through the router cable and wireless
-Let me know if you need more help with any of these steps.
-Good luck...and I hope this helps!!
