My Compaq Presario F730US Laptop will not start up. I found out that it is a Hard Drive Issue.. Please Help!

If the hard drive is faulty then to get the laptop functing again then you need to purchase a new hard drive and install Windows in the new hard drive, the device drivers and your programs.
You need to download the drivers from the Compaq WEB support/download page from another computer. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: -

As I have mentioned in the past these problems are usually connected with improper partioning with the hard drive. My suggestion would be to use FDISK to check for partitions that are marked as not being used.
Be Careful when using Fdisk because it can and will sometimes backfire.
(you can find Fdisk on just about any startup disk
Just make sure that there are startup files on the disk

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

I forgot my administrator password for my compaq presario f730us
have you changed admin password recently ? if yes and if you remember the old admin password, you should go ahead and restore the laptop to it's previous point when new password was not set.


restart the notebook and keep tapping f11 key until Recovery manager window appears.

under I need help immediately, select Microsoft System Restore

click next

in Vista, you will find System Restore under Advance option.

The cmos battery is usually located under the keyboard section...you may have to take a couple other things out,but carefully remember where it all goes back..or you will have a non working laptop:)

Remove battery and ac ADAPTER from the laptop
Press and Hold the power button for 40 sec(No battery and No Power chord)
Connect the battery back to laptop
turn on your computer,
Login to windows
check the battey backup

On then off.
visit hp.com. they have had a big issue with many of their models. you may be entitled to use the enhancement warranty for bad motherboards. but your issue is the motherboard. below is their link. i had a unit replaced because of this issue, but hp has dropped many units from their list after the 24month period. one of mine is not on there anymore. but dont hurt to try

Presario F730US wireless not working
We have the same problem on a Compaq F730 US laptop. There is a massive recall going on right now with HP/Compaq motherboards. It mostly affects the wireless adapter. Do some internet research and look on HP's website and see if your model # is included in the recall. If it's not, it should be! Let HP know about it. There is also a BATTERY RECALL on the exact same model. Now we know why Compaq went out of business!

Presario v2000 will not work
There is a specific known issue with the Bios on certain model laptops that once the Bios has failed the laptop will not boot. It happened with my wifes 6000. I searched for a week and then finally found a very obscure article about it. I called HP/Compaq and gave them the symptoms and what I had already done (reseated the memory, hard drive and verified that the AC Adapter was good) Finally they acknowledged that her SN laptop had the known issue and sent me a box to ship it to them for motherboard replacement. The laptop was 4 months out of warranty so if I hadn't found this it would have been junk. Good Luck.
