Clearing Paper Jams If the printer's control panel displays a paper jam message, look for paper in the locations indicated in Figure 22, then see the procedure for clearing the paper jam. You might need to look for paper in other locations than indicated in the paper jam message. If the location of the paper jam is not obvious, look first in the top cover area.When clearing paper jams, be very careful not to tear the paper. If a small piece of paper is left in the printer, it could cause additional jams. As soon as I started using recycled ink cartridges, I started getting a paper jam error on my printer. The control panel message instructs me to remove the back panel and clear paper jam. I've done this several times but there is no paper to clear and the message keeps coming back. I've tried turning of the printer and unplugging it to clear the memory, but that doesn't help. Could it be that the chip on the ink cartridge is messing with the printer's operating system?

It sounds like the paper sensor in the paper try is broken or jamed. Remove the paper tray and locate the paper sensor. Check if it is jamed in the up position or if it is broken.

In order for a jam message to reset to READY, the printer logic is looking for an "06 COVER OPEN" message. The top cover of the machine must be opened to clear the jam message. If the top cover interlock switch is stuck closed, the printer logic never clears the jam message, even after all the paper has been removed. The printer appears hung with the paper jam message and can only be made READY by powering the printer Off and back On.

usually it means that a sensor in your fuser is bad. If you have a P.M. Kit replaced the fuser and clean the printer.

but before you do, make sure that you have cleared all jams, including in the fuser.

Its probably time for a Preventive Maintanence

Check the back of the printer. There should be door at the bottom. Your paper jam could be there.
