Toshiba no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key

try booting from a Windows installation disc. Choose the repair installation option. If this does not work, you may have to erase (format) your whole drive and start over again by reinstalling Windows from scratch.

Before erasing the drive, you might want to pull it out, put as a second drive in another working computer or inside a USB hard drive case and download all of your information from it. Otherwise you may have a mess on your hands with lost data/documents/photos.

I have an ibm that i would like bring back to factory status

hello hershyhunk to fully restore a PC to factory settings/defaults you will need to reinstall the operating system. to do this you need your recovery disks that came with your computer.
WARNING!! All of the data on your laptop's hard drive will be permanently erased when you restore it to its original settings. Before starting the restore process you may want to save any data you still need to an external drive such as a USB flash storage device.
Depending on the specific brand and model of your laptop you may need to select different options to restore the computer to its original settings. Check the manual that came with your laptop to find the specific menu options you need to select. Some computer manufacturers include an icon in the Start menu for restoring the laptop to its original settings without having to use a separate recovery disk. Double-click the icon and follow the instructions on the screen to start the restore process.
  1. Place the operating system recovery CD that came with your computer into the CD or DVD drive. Restart the computer.
  2. Wait for the computer manufacturer's logo to pop up on the screen. Press the keyboard key that brings up the recovery menu, which is usually "F2," "F8," or "Ctrl" and "F11" pressed simultaneously.
  3. Select the specific language you want the operating system to use from the menu at the top of the screen. Select "Next."
  4. Choose the option labeled "PC Restore," "Repair Your Computer" or something similar. Click "Next."
  5. Select "Restore" and then click "Enter" to start the process. Click "Restart" once the process has ended to boot the restored computer to its operating system.

I would like to restore my Toshiba Satellite laptop A85 to original state. Can I do this without the disks. I have backed up all of my information and want to start over.

It depends. Some laptop computers have a usually-hidden "recovery" partition on the disk-drive.

Reboot the computer, and look for a "start recovery" option as the first page of text on the computer-screen. Press the specified key to access that "recovery" partition.

Or, some Toshiba computers have a utility to *CREATE* a set of system-recovery CDs, by burning the necessary files onto CD/DVD-recordable disks. Run that utility.

Intel Macbook Flashing Folder, wont boot DVD

Hi yeddi,333,

You say you originally booted into what you assumed was the install screen and tried to install from disks - then you later mention borrowed 10.5 disks - - was this one set of disks or two?

Unless those install disks (esp. the 10.5 disks) were for that version of MacBook, they likely won't work - different chip-sets from MacBookPro, iMac, etc. You'll need to either get the right recovery disks, or find someone who is able to re-image your computer via Target Disk Mode or using NetRestore, or some similar software product. If you don't have these resources, it's likely fastest/easiest to get the right install/recovery disks from Apple - - since they already sold the OS with that computer, you can maybe get a recovery done by them - - I'd call and ask.

Also - - does this MacBook have AppleCare (3 year extended warranty) - - if so, see if you can exercise that for actual hands-on assistance.

I'd also be sure that the hard drive was properly replaced and is actually working - - why was it replaced originally?

You're probably going to need to contact Apple for some assistance - go to this site to schedule phone support.

http://www.apple.com/support/expert/

or go into your nearest Apple store and show it to one of the "geniuses" at their tech support desk.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using Fixya.com,

HOW DO I RESTORE TO FACTORY WITHOUT DISK

You need to have the recovery disks (2 disks) so that you can do that since the OS needs to be reloaded including the original programs and drivers, from the second disk. The first one is for erasing your HDD's contents. You need to check if you have the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program. If you do, that means your HDD has a hidden partition and you are able to create your own recovery disks. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Laptop screen

Try turning the brightness up. You can usually do this by holding down the blue "Fn" key, and then hitting the key (usually the F8 or 8 key) with the blue "brighter sun" on it.
