Sent faxes have vertical lines

It sounds to me like you have a bad or worn out ribbon roll..check it and see if there are any creases

If you require printed confirmation that your faxes weresuccessfully sent, follow these instructions to enable fax confirmation beforesending any faxes. The default fax confirmation setting is Off. This meansthat a confirmation report is not printed for each fax sent or received. Aconfirmation message indicating whether a fax was successfully sent appearsbriefly on the control-panel display after each transaction. 2.Press right arrow to select Print Report, and then press OK.
3.Press right arrow to select Fax Confirmation, and then press OK.

On the printer :

1. Press Setup ( ).
2. Press the right arrow button ( ) to select Print Report , and then press OK .
3. Press the right arrow button ( ) to select one of the following options:
   • On Fax Send: Print a confirmation page every time you send a fax.
   • On Fax Receive: Print a confirmation page every time you receive a fax.
   • Send & Receive: Print a confirmation page every time you send or receive a fax.
4. Press OK .

Other confirmation reports in the same menu are :

Open up the document feeder and clean the small glass. If the line is more than 1/4 inch wide you have a bad scanner block.

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

You have not specified why you can't read the right side of copies and I am assuming that the reason is because the 'lines' are covering the text. I can offer a solution to the lines issue.

Print fax confirmation reports
If you need printed confirmation that your faxes were successfully sent, follow these instructions to enable fax confirmation before sending any faxes. Select either On Fax Send or Send & Receive.
The default fax confirmation setting is Off. This means that the HP All-in-One will not print a confirmation report for each fax sent or received. A confirmation message indicating whether a fax was successfully sent appears briefly on the display after
each transaction.
To enable fax confirmation from the control panel
1. Press Setup.
2. Press 2, and then press 1.
This selects Print Report and then selects Fax Confirmation.
3. Press to select one of the following, and then press OK.

Off Does not print a fax confirmation report when you send and
receive faxes successfully. This is the default setting.
On Fax Send Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send.
On Fax Receive Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you receive.

Tip If you choose On Fax Send or Send & Receive, and scan your fax to send from memory, you can include an image of the first page of the fax on the Fax Sent Confirmation report. Press Setup, press 2, and then press 2 again. Select On from the Image on Fax Send Report menu.

Open up the document feeder and clean the scanner glass.
