external writers are plug and play , they do not need a driver. the disk i think your referring to will only contain writing programs but there are many free writing programs on google search. just plug the writer into any usb port and windows will find it and install the drivers automatically
You can buy any brand of external CD/DVD writer and connect it to your notebook with a usb cable and it will work perfectly. You notebook should even install all the drivers it needs to run automatically. Just download a great FREE program called Imgburn and you can be burning CD's and DVD's in no time.
you will do, cd writers will not write to a dvd. you can either replace your cd writer with a dvd-rw drive (dvd-rw drives will also write to cd) or you can get an external usb dvd drive.
