    • Digital Zoom is disabled when the [Postcard Print Mode] is selected as a image quality setting.
IF this fails, your camera is in need of service.

Can zoom in or out when in full page mode anymore, just started yesterday aug 10/11

there is a pretty obvious bug when using 'Marquee Zoom' (Alt+5) in the full screen mode (F11). When you press 'Ctrl' to toggle 'Zoom In' and 'Zoom Out' (changing the little magnifying glass cursor from + to - and back again), it sticks with 'Zoom Out' and refuses to toggle back to 'Zoom In'. And then the only way to recover 'Zoom In' is to exit full screen mode, whereupon 'Ctrl' regains its toggling power and everything is back to normal

The lens of canon a520 camera doesnt retract. My son has hardpressed it and it doesnt zoom in or zoom out.

    Hi.

Are you receiving an error on the LCD screen such as "Lens Error" ? If so, this camera is defective and needs to be returned to Canon or an authorized dealer for repair.

If you are not receiving any error messages, does the camera have power (turn on and off) and still not zoom? If this is the case it would also be very unusual without an error message. Either way, you are still looking at a repair for this product.

Typically, a Powershot camera of this age would cost over $100.00 to repair at most facilities. You would be better off purchasing a brand new camera (with more megapixels and features) for around the same price as a repair.

    Sticky zoom control

Put some WD-40 on a cotton swab, squeeze the tip and let it drizzle down into the zoom switch.

I bet you can't solve this.

We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

    Broken zoom

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

    Zoom in, zoom out

Well something is wrong dropped or not. Try the Tech help website at Canon first. If you have a Warranty[guarantee] take it back to the store I suspect independent repair shop will want charge almost the value of the item.
