After you open the cover and the carriage comes to the center for new ink, you press the resume button for a few seconds and the carriage will go to the printhead changing position. You don't want to ever force the printhead to move. Hope you didn't break something already. Sorry for the stupid help.

Open the blue inside cover with power on, as though you will change the cartridges, then force the carriage ever so slightly right, so in the near left corner you see a grey plastic tab, push that and allow the small frame to lift up, when its clear of the body you can let go of the carriage and then lift the head out - with or without the cartridges in, WARNING!, make sure you reseat the frame properly before the blue cover goes back down or it will foul as the carriage retreats back to its cleaning station

SOURCE: Figuring how to install new print head in my Canon iP90 printer

when you open the top cover, the carriage unit will mvoe to the middle of the unit. Once it is there hold the inks and move a bit to the left so you can see a grey lever. then the printhead and the inks will come up together. remove inks and replace head.

This should work for you

SOURCE: Figuring how to install new print head in my Canon iP90 printer

The important point is moving the head to the left, or sliding it left or right, so you can actually SEE the LEVER. It is hidden otherwise and what appears to be the obvious lever on the top is the wrong lever. If you have pressed the correct lever the unit removes very easily. If it is hard and you cannot make progress chances are you have not found the correct LEVER!

SOURCE: Canon Pixma iP90 - Jagged text and lines

The printer has a plastic band that runs from one side to the other. The print head has a sensor that passes over it each time it moves. The band is a little transparent and appears to have vertical lines in it. That needs to be cleaned.

  1. Remove power from the printer,
  2. Wipe it clean,
  3. Move the head manually to other side to clean the other areas.
Hope this helps.

We are trying to get our iP90 printer to print. We have cleaned the print head, replaced both black & color ink. We have done a deep cleaning several times, cleaned with alchol & cotton q-tip....

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

I have PIXMA iP90 printer but having problem of not printing blank test,I mean if i change the text colour to blue or any different colout it prints but not with black ink

This seems to be a comon problem with canon printers the black head is either dirty or needs to be replaced. canon should look into this

to clean heads use rubbing alcohol, cotton swab

put some rubbing alcohol on the cotton swab and gently rub the black portion of the head until it is clean

My Canon IP90 printer in printing blank paper

If the inkjet printer has not been used for some time, and the ink cartridges are full then the print head nozzles may be blocked. If running the maintenance nozzle cleaning does not clear the print head nozzles then the print head will need to be replaces.
NOTE - inkjet print heads are not cheap, it may be better to purchase a new injet printer.

Its asking to install new color but have done this and it's still not working i've replaced both with the same problem

I have the same problem with my IP90. I send it to Canon Service Center in Philippines and they replaced the print head which cost almost the whole printer assembly. After about 6 months (seldom used) it has the same problem and the service center wanted to replace the print head again. I opted to get a new one IP100. My usage is still not so frequent but it is still working after more than a year now. The IP90 is not so good design when it comes to parts replacement. The parts are in modules. No piece-part sold.

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

Print Head

After opening the purple cover, the printer head will move to the center. There should be a gray tab on the left side of the forward facing opening (about the middle of lower cartridge). Gently push printer head to the right (1/4 to 1/2 inch) and a gray slanted tab will appear from behind housing. lift this tab and a metal lock will pop up. Tilt lock back and the printer head should be lying loose in its cradle.
