You either dont habe a working sound card...or settings are malfunctioning! Try going through all the settings for sound in the control panel...hopefully that will work!!

Is the monitor plugged in to the computer's VGA Video Output (15 pin connector, 3 rows of pins)?
Most motherboards are able to supply very basic 640x480 video but you might want to install whatever drivers you have onto the new computer, if not already installed. This should get you off to a start, anyway. After Monitor wakes up the process will be lots easier. LCD Monitors ought to work for initial Installs.
Sounds like your Video card is not installed properly, you should take it out and then put it back securely into the motherboard. If its installed properly the monitor should come on during the start up screen at least to show the type of video card installed.
Also let me ask what model was your old Video card?
try to connect your old monitor and adjust your screen properties down to 800x600 with medium color setting..or go to xp safe mode, adjust screen properties to the lowest setting, xp has not yet installed the monitor driver of your lg lcd monitor.
If your previous monitor had built in speakers and your new monitor does not you are going to have to purchase new speakers.
If your new lcd monitor has an audio input you can purcahse a sterio mini jack cable for under $10 at any store that sells computer stuff (circuit city, best buy, walmart, target, etc).
Simply plug one end into your monitor and the other end into your computers audio output jack (usually color coded green).
Now of course if that monitor does not have built in speakers your only option is to purcahse a set of speakers for the computer. These usually start at around $15.
