When I plug in my canon mx310, i get the error message...check ink U053. The ink cartridges are in the machine, i have cleaned them and reiserted them, unpluuged the machine and removed the power cord....

Try re-reinserting the ink cartridge.
First make sure you are placing the right
color cartridge into the right slot.
Most Printers are touchy about the
installation of ink cartridges. If the
instructions say to press the cartridge
into the slot until you hear a loud click,
that's what they mean. If at first you
don't succeed, remove the cartridge and
reinsert it into the slot again and press
on it hard till it clicks.
Then your printer should work properly.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

How to change ink cartridges. canon mx310 printer

Raise lid to expose cartridges...if they are not accessible, then reset power...off, then on...the cartridges should "cycle" to left side...if not, turn power off and you can manually pull the cartridge "case" to the far left...push down on a cartridge, then pull out...replace with new cartridge by inserting into slot, then pulling up on front of cartridge until it clicks into position...repeat with second cartridge...print test page...should be fine...

How to change the ink in a Canon PIXMA MX310?

  1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) with both hands, then pull the Scanning Unit Support (A) down into place.

  2. Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.

Note: - Do not attempt to reattach the protective tape once you have removed it.
    - Do not touch the gold electrical contacts or the print head nozzles after removing the protective tape.

  3. Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.- Black: the left slot- Color: the right slot*

*One black cartridge and one color cartridge must be installed in the machine in order for the printer to operate. It does not matter if the capacities (Standard or High) do not match.

  4. Push up on the front of the cartridge until it locks into place. (A click sound will be heard when the cartridge is locked in place.)

  5. Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.

  6. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

  7. Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.

Removing Ink Cartridges:
  1. After confirming that the printer is powered on, open the scanning unit (printer cover). The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.

  2. Press down on the semi-circular tab to release the cartridge and then remove it.

Note: Handle the ink cartridges carefully to avoid staining clothes and surrounding work area.

  3. Remove and replace each cartridge individually. Or, remove the second cartridge after the first has been removed.

  4. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

Alram light

Did you replace the Black ink cartridge or the Color cartridge, or did you replace both?

Facing the front of the Canon Pixma MX310, did you install the Black ink cartridge to the left side, and the Color cartridge to the right side?

Do Not reverse how the ink cartridges go. Do Not install a Black ink cartridge, in the Color cartridge holder.

If the Alarm light came on, check to see if you have an error message in the LCD. (Not trying to insult your intelligence. The LCD is the little rectangular Liquid Crystal Display on your Pixma MX310 Operation Panel, to the left of the numeric buttons)

Do you have the Pixma MX310 On-screen manual?
Start>Hover on All Programs>Canon>Pixma MX310>On-screen manual

Click on the Troubleshooting heading.
If you have an error message code, click on the heading ->
An Error Message is Displayed on the LCD.

Also suggest you click on the heading -> Problems Sending Faxes.

See if the information provided has a solution to your problem.

MX310 error code U163

Hello,

Can you tell me, have you replaced the empty tank with a full one? And, have you manually reset the ink level function by pressing Stop/Reset for a full 6 seconds (one second longer than described in your manual?)

If you have, and you still see the ink cartridge light flashing, does it flash every second or every three seconds?

The contacts for the ink cartridge are easy to contaminate by accident. Sometimes wiping the contacts off with alcohol will clean them enough for the ink level to be recognized.

Now, and yes, this is a common problem. Press and Hold the Stop/Reset button for 6 full seconds again after cleaning the contacts and then release it? Use the one Mississippi method of counting.

The Scan cover must be closed completely and locked in place. And the ink cartridge must be firmly locked in place as well.

Please advise me of your results. There may be a more complex problem involved and it is important to have the necessary data in order to get you back to working again. Okay?

How long has it been since you purchased this printer?

Regards,
Worldvet
