Canon Power Shot A590 IS lens error message - lens stays out and restart creates the same problem. No damage, happened out of the blue. Used less than 2 years.

Not a solution, but a smilar problem with Canon Power shot A2000IS. Same lens error. reset camera message. Lens alos in fully open position.
Also in Costa Rica.
Any suggestions?

This message appears when a malfunction in the lens occurs. It could be a grain of sand jamming a gear or a barrel out of alignment. In any case, the lens is not serviceable, you would need to take your camera to your nearest repair centre to have it looked at.
I had this problem. Nothing was lodged between the body and lens, restarting multiple times did nothing, cleaning, torquing, twisting over several days - nothing.
So, figuring "what could it hurt?" I just smacked it on the heel of my hand a couple times. Now it works.
firm percussive maintenance saves the day once again.
Mine is the same model and it was giving me this same message when I tried to start it up. "LENS ERROR, RESTART CAMERA". It's probably a result of you dropping it. I research it and could'nt find the answer anywhere. I got mad and upset because I use my camera so much and it was not working for the holidays so I hit the lens of the camera on a desk, amazingly I turned it on after I hit t and it started working. I know it sounds a little crazy but give it a try! GOOD LUCK!
