unplug your TV for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. Or just follow the directions on screen on how to use the volume control buttons and that should help.
Try doing a factory reset on your TV, which should be located under the Settings Menu. This should clear any issues. If you still experience problems afterwards, I would recommend seeking repairs.
Have you tried to power cycle your TV? Turn the TV off and unplug it for a minute or so. Re-connect it and power it back on. If this doesn't work, you can also try to do a factory reset (Settings Menu). If issues still persist, I would advise seeking repairs.
Make sure this is happening from two sources such as a dvd player and a gaming system as well. If it happens from two sources the speakers are more than likely not working or the sound board will need to be replaced. A cheap way of getting around a repair is by getting a surround sound and running a cablebox, dvd player, and/or your gaming system directly to the surround sound system using it for sound instead of the tv.
Since you have it hooked up to the stereo system, you need to go to on screen audio set up and turn off the TV built-in speakers (you will be listening the TV sound through your stereo system speakers), then go to the audio output set up and set it to 'variable' so the audio output of the TV's RCA audio out put will vary with the volume control of the TV (not all TV will alow this function), you will need to set the stereo volume to certain level (around 9~10 O'clock setting) since the sound coming from the TV will be controlled by the TV remote volume control. You can otherwise set the TV output to be at 'fixed' level, which means the sound output of the TV will not be controlled by the TV remote volume control, you will use the stereo remote volume control to adjust the sound level instead. I hope this is clear to you.
Not out of luck, Dynex.com says to use codes from other model of televisions. The way I did it (I have a DirecTV remote as well) is just did a code search till I found which one turned it off. The only thing it won't do is change which input you use, but the menu, volume and channel controls all work fine.
