It sounds to me that there is an actual leak from the printer when in use. You need to have it serviced.

try to remove then replace back the cartridges before turning it on brother ink cartridges

There is not change language options in most Printers. The only option is uninstall & reinstall the Printer Drivers in the language of your choice.

Install another scanning software, if you have photoshop or any imaging software, you can use the scanner by going to the menu, then choose File, Import, TWAIN, Acquire and the scanner control will appear.

Or just go to My Computer and double click the scanner icon (in XP) to start the scanning assistant.
