    Hi Juli arena, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
    well do all usb ports fail or only the USB3 ports (never try just 1, ok,)
    question #2.
    do all USB ports show good in the device manager ? if no that means the drives(SW) is missing wrong or corrupted, so update it.
    question 3: did you upgrade the OS with out HP permission? no PC stated at all just HP. LT.
    learn to post with full model of PC or answer will be WRONG.

    and what usb device failed,
    if keyboard works or mouse works then its not dead is it.
    only YOUR device is dead on all ports
    so what DEVICE Is it, of the 10,000 USB devices made.>?
    for example vast web cams do not work on windows 10, did you upgrade to w10?>????

Can you give us more information, is the USB not working at all, and if so when did it stop working, if you go to device manager, are the drivers for your USB ports showing any issues.

Sorry that means that the problem is the mother board (on laptops most parts are intergrated) replace motherboard

Perhaps the laptop port is designed for a usb 3.0 insert instead of a usb 2.0? Also try using compressed air to clean both connections. The hub male end and the laptop female end.

HP3600 USB printer works but won't print on my HP7058 Laptop
Try removing all ports from your laptop, then reboot, and then create just one USB port. Also, go to your hardware devices and make sure your usb ports don't have any question marks or yellow warning symbols. Be sure first that the drivers for your USB ports are installed and working first. This sounds either a faulty USB cord, which does happen, or USB drivers issues in your laptop. The printer is probably not the problem here.

One USB port outlet of my laptop is not working.
Interestingly some USB ports can not power all accessories that are plugged in to it. Try another port, if that works you're still in business. I believe that unit has at least 4 ports to use.

USB drive problem
I had a client with this same issue. However, her issue was that the top left USB port would only accept flash drives. Your external harddrive is probably not getting enough power from your USB port. Try using two USB ports (you can get a connector for this) to power up the external harddrive.

2) Check with other USB ports to the same Notebook.

If you are facing problem with any particular usb device then it doesn't means that the usb port of your laptop is faulty,You need to check the usb device.........or you can buy a new usb hub which is very cheap ..

just try to look at the port setting of your printer, it should be Lpt1 if you are using a printer cable and if it is usb it should be in usb port..
