Canon a590 Card (not really) Locked

One year-old canon a590 keeps reading "card locked"; unable to take or erase pictures. sd card itself is not locked. in menu, the camera skips over the "protect" option, which i thought i had accidentally turned on...tried a new memory card and resetting everything to factory standard. what can i do, I just found this out and have a trip coming up!

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera. But if you've already tried this, see this link for additional things that you can try.

I have a canon A590 it always says the memory card is locked. Please Help we are going on vaction....

Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

BTW, if you're about to go on vacation, get a second memory card anyway. Would you drive a car without a spare tire in the trunk?

I have a Canon Power Shot A590 and everytime i try to take a picture it says card locked. What do i do?

Take the memory card out of the camera. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

A590 is card locked

Hello

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

6c99e31.jpg

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea

My Canon Power Shot A590s card is locked and I have absolutely no clue how to unlock it. Please help

Take out your SD card. SD cards have a small sliding switch on the side of the card. The switch moves up and down and is probably in the lock position. 5748d99.jpg

My camera says my memory card is locked but the button on the side is not locked how do i retrieve my pictures i have a canon powershot a480

Issue: [Memory card locked] message appears on the screen.
Solution: Change the memory card lock switch to the normal setting

The SD card has a lock switch to prevent existing data from being erased. To record images or movies this switch must be in the normal (non lock) position. Different brands of SD memory cards may identify this switch differently. Regardless the procedure should be the same. Please remove the card from the camera and ensure that the switch is not in the locked position. sdcardlocked.jpg
sdcardunlocked.jpg ---
You should be able to retrieve photos, but not writing or erasing if the switch is switched to write protect.

If it's not functioning correctly, the camera may need service at Canonusa.com.

Memory card error

Am assuming that you verified that the slide switch on the cards were all in the unlocked position.

If so, the A590 is still a relatively new camera. If the camera is still under a year old, then it's still under warranty. Call 1-800-OK-CANON to resolve the issue.

CARD IS LOCKED ON MY CANON POWERSHOT A420

I have a Canon A650 that was displaying a "card locked!" message. First, take out the card and check small the lock tab on the side of the card itself. Then, try a different SD card in the same camera. I tried an old 256 MB card from an older camera. I still got the "card locked" message. When I put the 1 GB card I was struggling with in my old Nikon, it read fine. So at this point I knew it was my camera and not the card. What finally worked for me was very gently pressing down on the metal flap inside the card chamber that detects the lock with the tip of a straightened paperclip. Hope this helps.

Card locked canon powershot sd750

Check the switch on the side of your SD memory card. It is a small sliding switch which has a lock position. Sounds like the switch is in the "locked" position. Unlock, reload card, & you should be good to go. If not, the card is probably damaged.
