Roland how old is the computer ? computers get old fast.HDD has a exspected life of 5 years PSU also.what causing it you ask lots of use.and how it's used

1. What exactly do you see on the monitor screen when the computer starts?
2. Do you see any error message?

Step 1: We recommend you to start your computer in last known good configuration and check if the computer starts.
a. Start your computer and tap F8 key continuously to see advanced boot options.
b. Select Last known good configuration and hit enter.
c. Check if the computer starts.

Step 2: If the computer does not start, then check if it starts in safe mode
a. See Start the computer in safe mode
b. Check if the computer boots to the desktop.
c. If it boots, then restore the computer to an earlier time.

Step 3: If the computer does not start in any mode, then repair install using Windows XP disc
a. See Perform a Repair Installation
b. Once you've completed the installation, check if the issue persists.

Also use a system utility software like RegInOut to fix and avoid all such type of windows errors.

Try starting in safe mode and if that doesn't run press F8 or F11, depending on what make of laptop you have, to run Recover.

Hi,
if the computer starts and then shuts down, the problem could be a virus or a bad harddrive.
Power off the system and then restart , tap the F8 key couple of times as soon as the computer starts . Select safe mode with networking,check if the computer is able to start in safe mode or not . If the computer is not starting in safe mode aswell. its time to reformat the computer . Install windows on it again

How long havew you had the present motherboard in your computer? if over 3 years (and used on a dayly basies more then likely, your motherboard is in need of replacment because the capasitor/s are leaking (not giving the proper voltage to start and hold your computer at proper levels

In Windows XP you can open My Computer from the Start menu. To open My Computer, click on the Start button, then click on "My Computer" link as shown in the attached image.



To save the "My Computer" icon on the Desktop, right-click on "My Computer" Link in the Start Menu, and click on "Show on the Desktop" link.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE CONECTOR PROBLEM .CHECK ALL CONECTIONS AT COMPUTER. SPECIALLY POWER AND GROUND . CHECK FOR BURNT PINS AT COMPUTER . IF ALL GOOD YOU SHOLD REPLACE ECM.

if the green light is always on that means there is no prob concerning the power and the monitor itself. the problem seems to be coming from your graphic card..
try with another graphic card..

OR
you might not configure the screen resolution to the appropriate level..
can you run your pc correctly in safe mode??
