If it's like my whirlpool, pull it out. Spring should be obvious. I doubt the hinge portion is broken. Spring may be. While it's out and springs tend to break, I would replace both. Several online appliance parts stores can help you with springs, my diagnostics and Hinge issue. They have been helpful to me.

Testimonial: "Figured it out myself, had to pull out dishwasher, remove side panel. LG door has spring with connector assembly made from a cord. This connects the spring to the door, to create tension. Ordered part from LG. Replaced both connectors while I had the washer out."

I have a frigidaire model fmv156dbf and the door latch will no longer operate. when i opened up the door i saw that the spring that is supposed to operate the latch was no longer attached. where the spring...

We have the service manual and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

You can order parts here if needed.

Microve latch/spring assembly ... have a broken head on the latch which i can repair but cannot see where to attach other side of spring on Maytag MMV5207bas

Unfortunately, the exploded views do not show the innards of the door.

So as new latch head is not available separately, so if you cannot fix yours, a whole new door will be needed.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

There's probably a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

You can use use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

If you have to do any gluing, make sure the parts are squeaky clean and dry before you glue them, or it will not hold up.

Good luck!

Broken door catch, possible spring, Panasonic Slimline Combi microwave oven NN-A554W.

If you gently push up on the door latches (hook-like devices on the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off.
