The printer I'm using is an HP 5520 printer.
The first answer was very good, but you may also need to run a cleaning routine as it sounds like a printhead is clogged. Since this printer has the printhead as part of the cartridge, you always get a new printhead when you replace the cartrige.
Refilled cartridges are always troublesome. In my experience you will always have better luck with genuine HP cartridges, even though they cost more.
Hi
If you have recently changed one or more of the cartridges you may need to align the print head, the following steps explain the process:
To align printer from the printer display
1. From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon, and then touch Tools.
2. On the Tools menu, touch the down arrow to scroll through the options, and then touch Align Printer.
3. Follow the instruction on the screen.
To align printer from the printer software
On Windows:
a. From the Start menu on your computer, click All Programs, click HP.
b. Click the HP Photosmart 5520 series folder, click HP Photosmart 5520 series.
c. Under Print, double-click Maintain Your Printer.
d. Under the Device Services tab, double-click Align Printheads.
These instructions were copied from the manual at the following link

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may like to check the HP support page for the 5520 at the following link ---> support hp com
Trust this helps, best regards Alan
