I smell burning

pets in house? check all hose passages for "hairball" clog...and check the drivebelt that spins the brush...(some have an electric motor to spin the brush, thus no belt)

Its sounds to me like maybe the belt is slipping that will smell like something burning.

There's a number of reasons to smell burning after a washing machine cycle. It's a 220V appliance, so if it short's out it will cause problems. It's more likely the motor being overloaded making it hot and causing the electrical burning smell, or a short that's overheating something electrical. Check to see if the belt that spins the whole barrel is melted or worn anywhere. Inspect the wiring that's attached to the system that engages spin, which is different from agitation by the big tower.
If these both check out, an trip to the Maytag Man might have to fix overloading motors or relays, or switches, if anything turns up in your search for the source of the electrical smoke. Ozone is what you are smelling, FYI.

YOU HAVE SOMETHING STUCK IN THE WATER PUMP OR YOUR MOTOR COUPLING IS BAD

sounds like an over heated motor. motors tend to do that before finially hitting a brick wall. please e-mail me for any other assistance. good luck :)

when m/c goto spin the motor load is maximum i hope no thing with your motor
also if you smell like rubber burning maybe the belt , you will surprise every thing you see come after heavy overload clothes

sounds like the belt or the tub bearings are shot. It is likely that the motor is spinning and the tub is not, causing the belt to burn.

That is your belt burning, turn the vacuum upside down and make sure your brush is spinning freely. Something may be wedged in your brush.

8 yrs old....The LATs were the best models for Maytag...Maybe it's time to replace the belt..Slipping belts smell bad.
