Change oven igniter

Two different ways to get to it , remove the front kick plate underneath the oven door or remove the oven bottom which is inside the oven

well..that's a gas issue, not an ignitor issue..did you check for the pilot to be active? or is this pilot less?

Its your oven igniter that's bad.

The oven igniter connections are underneath the oven. To get access to the oven igniter glow bar electrical connector, I take out the bottom storage drawer completely then get a flashlight or floodlight to see under there, and then I can see the oven igniter glow bar connector.

Its easy to replace, just take the bottom oven panel from inside your oven off, then you remove the flame spreader metal shield, then you will see the oven igniter mounted on your burner tube, just remove the oven igniter off from your burner tube and install the new one.

Unplug your range first before changing it.

The oven electronic ignition is bad, very common, to replace remove oven door and the grate shelf, then unscrew bottom panel inside oven , you will see the ignition device towards the back unscrew it and unplug the the electrical plug to remove and replace it. I found them cheaper on line, like Sears parts center, it takes about 15 minutes to change out.

On most GE models: Remove oven bottom by removing two screws at very back of oven floor, lifting up back side of floor, pulling back a bit to disengage front of oven floor, and remove. Next, remove flame spreader, allowing you to see burner and igniter. It is easiest to remove the burner assembly to change out the igniter.

Your problem is with the oven ignitor. Remove the racks from the oven, remove bottom shelf. Remove the metal plate covering flame spreader. The igniter should now be visible. Turn oven on and watch the glow from the igniter. It will come on but it wouldnt get too bright, so it wouldnt open the gas valve. After changing the ignitor, oven should light.

your oven igniter is no good. remove racks from oven, unscrew the 2 screws in the back of he bottom panel. remove panel. there will be a metal plate on top of the flame spreader. remove the wing nut holding the plate and remove plate. you should now see the igniter. now try turning the oven on. after a few seconds you should see the igniter glowing. if it gets to a real bright then it is good. if it doesnt it is bad. unplug the stove.changing it is fairly simple. just remove the 2 screws holding it in place, gently pull on the wire to see if there is a connector, if not then you can always cut and join the wires to install the new igniter. igniter should run you less that $20 bucks. its pretty simple to change. after changing the igniter and before reassembling your oven, just plug it back in and turn the oven on. oven should lite. do not put hands or ace inside the oven while attemping to lite.

To replace the igniter (flat style), first turn off power to oven, shut off gas valve to oven, gain access to the back of the range and remove the cover from the igniter connector. Take the oven door off by pulling it up off the hinges, remove the cover over the oven burner to gain access to the igniter. Remove the two screws and pull the igniter out, then reverse to install. The part number for the flat igniter is 12400035.

It's usually pretty simple. Start by turning power off to the oven - unplug it or disconnect power at the circuit breaker. Open oven door, remove all racks, then remove oven floor panel (it might be secured with two bolts or clips on the back side). Remove the flame spreader (one nut). Now you have the oven burner and igniter exposed. If the new plug differs from the old, cut off the plug and use ceramic wire nuts (should be supplied with igniter) to connect the wires. Don't shake the igniter - the coil is very fragile. Once the igniter is replaced make sure the wires are connected securely. Put everything back the way it was and test the oven.

Below are the two most popular oven igniters: flat bar igniter and round igniter.

Flat igniter - this is by far the most commonly used oven igniter. Includes all necessary pieces to replace longer ceramics. Size: 3-3/4" long. Fits Maytag, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Magic Chef, Tappan, Jenn Air, GE (flat bar only), Sears Kenmore (flat bar only), even some Thermador cooktops and Viking ovens. -

Almost always a weak oven igniter. Remove oven floor by removing 2 screws at rear of floor. Remove flame spreader from burner, if it has one. Turn on oven and see if igniter gets red. It's the caged thing on burner tube. If it does but doesn't light gas, replace igniter. UNPLUG UNIT FIRST!!
Put dishwashing soap on threads of 2 screws holding igniter in place. This will allow it to come out easier. Do-not use oil. It will make your oven smell like a diesel truck.
Remove screws. You will have to remove drawer in front. Underneath you can fin wires from igniter. These will be cut at igniter and connected to igniter with enclosed wire nuts. The 2 wires to igniter go either way.
