I've a laptop (HP pavilion dv2000). All the 3 usb ports, while loading a pen drive or hard disk thru' usb, it doesn't automatically open the H drive. Instead it asks for the formatting & even when i say yes to the command for quick formatting, it shows its disability to format. Although my USB data card & printer thru' usb are functioning correctly. Pls. help, its urgent.
NO OS STATE is this the XP virus maget , dead for 3 years now?
XP does not work on many USB devices even after the SP3 update
and THE SP3 UPDATE is mandatory. service pack 3
DV2000
id bet you if you booted to linux CD, (knoppix 7 live)
all usb ports work, telling you what, in seconds, XP IS DEAD.
for a fact.
google XP USB dead, (billions of hits for 16 long years)
MS dont support this OS nor VISTA or older.
HP does not support DV200o now its legacy hardware now.
MS plug and play is dead too on XP. per there warnings.
The means all new XP things will be dead, if the maker of said things
does not give you Their soft or that thing..
if hell bent on using XP ,(why) upgrade to W7
then get SP3 there.

it came new with XP
and was VISTA READY, best is to go W7. !
Goodwill store has $20 laptops with W7 on it working now.
why wait, dump yours, and UPGRADE HW/SW all at once
and WIN.
why to not RUN XP (endless bad and advancing....)

Here's what you need to do:
First, be sure to assign an ip address(in the proper subnet) to each VLAN.
Second, use the ip helper-address command in the context of each VLAN, the address used should be the address of the DHCP server
Third, Add a scope for each additional VLAN on the DHCP server.
The switch will route the DHCP request to the proper server based on the ip helper-address command parameter and based on the ip address of the VLAN that is passed tot he server, a DHCP address in the proper subnet is automatically configured.
Here is a sample:
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-24G-PWR# configure
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-24G-PWR(config)# vlan 33
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-24G-PWR (vlan-33)#ip address 192.168.33.254/24
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-24G-PWR (vlan-33)# ip helper-address 10.1.2.250

go to device manager and from there try updating the usb drive from there

i hope the size of file not larger then then the DVD/CD, ( i think you already know about that)
if you burn multiple format of file, make a folder and put all the file in the folder, so burn the folder,
especially when you put a zip folder, sometimes it will cause error,

You can try uninstalling USB root hubs from device manger and restart the unit and check,
SOURCE: usb ports not working
Check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Also check HP's support section on the web for any updated drivers especially for your laptops motherboard / bios
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
Once you have done that try some of the common fixes below.
I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and devices (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability
2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)
3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especialy true if you move a HUB to another port
