How do I get a Service manual for an Industrial Sewing Machine

The machine is making grinding noises. When I sew forward the reverse bar is moving and the machine stops. I have to push down on the reverse lever to get it to sew again. It does this repeatedly. When I turn the wheel it is really stiff. I always have to push down on the reverse bar to make it work.

If the handwheel is really stiff and the machine is making awful noises, then your machine may need oiling. Don't know if this is the case with your industrial machine, but it may be something to consider.

SOURCE: Hand wheel spins without moving the needle

I used to have an old Bernina that had an inner and outer hand wheel. Loosening the inner wheel disconnected the needle bar from the motor so you could wind the bobbin without running the needle up and down. It sounds to me like your machine has the same feature, but resistance on the needle makes the inner wheel loosen up. I don't know whether wrenching on it as tight as you can would be enough, or whether this is a symptom indicating that there is something loose internally in the connection between the inner and outer wheels. Good luck!

SOURCE: hand wheel loose

In the middle of the stop motion screw wheel there is a screw, undo the screw and unscrew the stop motion wheel all the way off, you will now see a three pronged washer, take it off and put it in a different position, put the stop motion wheel back on and just tighten finger tight, tighten the small screw all the way, now loosen the stop motion wheel and press on the foot control gently, the balance wheel should move with moving the machine, if the machine turns then start over again, you can put the three pronged washer upside down if you wish.

SOURCE: I need white sewing machine #1740 manual

Singer has the manuals for the White 1740 on their support site: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals .
The direct links are:
http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/712_white-1740-x.pdf and http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1105_white-1740-x.pdf . The two links seem to give identical files. Note you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the files.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Sewing machine handwheel turns and whirrs but needle bar stuck?

my suggestion is that the machine needs to be serviced at a sewing machine shop, because for 1.it's not responding 2. it used & you don't know when the last time it was serviced 3.something is wrong with the machine.
hopefully there are no broken parts, but having the machine serviced will tell that.
as for a manual

Go to the singer website
Go to the home page
Go to customer service--click on it--it will show a small menu--click on instruction manual
In the box put the model number (example w510 ) & click search

You Are Using the Wrong Bobbin If they are too small, they can bounce around in your bobbin case and cause a knocking or clunking noise. If they are too big, they will not spin freely in your bobbin case.

The needle can't be turned backwards manually

The needle should only go up/down. Sewing forward or reverse involves the feed dogs grabbing and moving the fabric. On most sewing machines, you should never turn the hand wheel backwards. This can change the timing and damage the machine. Instead, try holding the Reverse lever or button then turn the hand wheel forward.

Since the sewing machine jammed with the needle bar at its lowest point, open the bobbin cover. If you see a loop of thread, try and slide that loop until it clears. If there are several loops around the bobbin/bobbin case, you might try carefully cutting the thread. If the fabric of your sewing project has been stuffed into the needle opening on the plate, try carefully clipping threads to loosen the jam.

If that doesn't work, then double-check that the bobbin winding mechanism isn't engaged. If the unit is still stuck, you might have damage to the various linkages/bearings between the hand wheel and needle bar. The problem may require taking the machine in for service.

I hope these ideas help. Please add a comment with the make and model of the sewing machine for further assistance.

(When you do get the needle bar to go up, you may want to change your needle. Also change the needle plate to the straight stitch plate if you are doing a straight stitch with a lightweight fabric.)

Brother sewing machine noise

Sound like the whole unit needs a good cleaning.
My rule is "if it moves give it a lube", be careful not to get oil on electric boards or in the motor. What is the make and model of your machine. I will try to help you more.

How to put a new needle in Typical industrial sewing machine

Make sure the needle is oriented correctly and fully pushed up into the bar. Depending on how the sewing machine makes a loop in the bobbin area the skarf of the needle can be facing forward or backward.... or to either side... depending on the machine and how it is threaded.

I am having the same problem. Initially it did sew forward, but now only sews in reverse. The large grey lever on the right front of the machine should make it sew in reverse only as long as it is held down, but mine sews in reverse only. Hmmmm....think there are many people with this problem.
