Shooting movement in poor light! Settings? - Nikon D60 Digital Camera

Poor picture quality can mean different things - could you be a little more specific, please ? For example is it over or under exposed ? Out of focus ? Suffering from camera shake or subject movement ? Electronic noise degrading the image definition ?

It's a warning that any vibration or harsh movement on the camera will prevent you from shooting a clear picture. You can still take a picture sure but it might come out blurry or out of focus, not enough light for the camera to lock on proper focusing. It also means it's better if you use a tripod to prevent camera shake or movement.

If the flash is not functioning, then the Camera flash may be turned off or ot is set to Auto and will only flash when the taking pictures in poorly lit environments. To turn on the flash so it works regardless of the lighting conditions, press the flash button on the Camera until the Forced Flash icon appears on the LCD screen. The flash button on the Camera has a lightning bolt symbol on it.
If the Forced Flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting it enabled, the flash will still not work in the following settings.
When shooting movies.
When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode.
When shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode.
Shooting with the Fireworks or high sensitivity mode. (ISO)
Following the above steps should resolve the issue. However, if the issue persists try resetting the Camera back to factory settings and specifications.
Try power resetting the Camera to check if it resolves the issue. To power reset the Camera, turn off the Camera and remove the battery pack. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Remain the Camera without power for 60 seconds and reinsert the battery.
This should resolve the issue.

first thing you can do is to try reverting cam back to factory settings.to do that initialize the camera.it's under menu>setup settings>main settings1>initialize. after initializing,set cam to auto adjustment mode (green camera icon in mode dial). what to avoid when taking pictures:
1.subject too close (use macro if needed)
2.insufficient light
3.subject movement
4.camera movement (that's caused by you)
5.incorrect camera setting
5.incorrect camera operation
btw, before you take a picture,press the shutter button halfway down first to give the cam ample time to focus.you'll see a flashing green indicator on the screen that means cam is focusing.when the indicator stops blinking cam is ready for the shot.press shutter button all the way.review your picture.if still blurry, you may try changing iso (for dark or fast moving subject, note:the greater value the noisier the picture gets), metering mode and focus settings by going to the shooting menu (press menu when your in P or program mode). hope this helps.tnx:)

You're shooting in too dark lighting for your settings. Do you have the flash on? If not, that should fix your problem. If not, your camera may just be super sensitive to movement even at reasonable shutter speeds. That's its problem, but you can correct for it by getting a small tripod, or by resting it on something sold like a table or book while you shoot.

The problem you face is that shooting good photos "inside a school" is a very difficult situation due to the low light. Your eyes can adjust to the low light, but there is only so much a camera can do to get good photos in a low light situation. The IXUS doesn't have a very fast lens or high ISO, so when you get into low light it has to use a slow shutter, which often means blurry images.

First, make sure the camera is shooting with the highest ISO settings. You will find the instructions on page 64 of your manual, and can also read them online here.

Second, use a tripod to stabalize the camera to minimize blur from camera shake.

Finally, if neither of these work then you will need to use a camera with better low-light capabilities, such as the Canon Powershot SX10 IS.

Please check the details.. How was it taken? (esp the lighting.).. In low light, or in indoor shooting in evening, or using flash when the subject is a bit too far away can result in totally disappointing pics. Try outdoor when the lighting is proper with the correct settings... If you are not sure about the settings, put it in auto mode... This is not a bad camera. Just try it out...

The problem is in your ISO. The camera has a terrible noise problem at anything over 100 ISO. I set my camera to 100 even when shooting in auto, and never use any other ISO setting - the results are just not worth it. Hang in there. The camera is awesome and you will make friends with it. The settings are really not that complicated once you get used to them. Just decrease your shutter speed and increase your aperature (lowest number) when in low light conditions and watch the LCD until it looks good (you might have to half press the shutter to get a preview), until you get a bettter grasp of what those adjustments are doing for you.
