I am in need of a layout to install the Insert connections on the proper pins of a 34 pin Front Panel SATA Dell GX270 motherboard. I'm certainly NOT illiterate--READ my request, for those in NEED, I WILL REPEAT THE REQUEST: I am in need of a layout to properly connect the POWER SWITCH, POWER LED, HARD DRIVE, RESET SWITCH to my DELL SATA GX270-----34 pin (I REPEAT 34 PIN) FRONT PANEL PINS. My question has nothing to do with PATA or SATA connections. If anyone has an answer for me, I will be grateful.
Hi there.
Get a strong flashlight and a magnifying glass (if you have one). On the motherboard look for the front panel, it should be
marked PWR and coloured green, also the plug that connects to it should
be marked PWR_SW. On some boards there are no colours but the markings are the same, so take a good close look.
Have a look at these pictures for an idea >>>>>>
Please post back with the results and any more advice if needed.
Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

here's a diagram of the front panel connector on the motherboard:

34 32 30 28 26 24 22 20 18 16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2
The 34-pin ribbon cable runs to a small sub-board for the front panel,
which includes a 16-pin(2x8) header which gets another ribbon cable
that goes to the "sub-board" for the actual panel light and
switches.
The table below shows the functions of the pins on the 34-pin
connector, plus where they connect to on the 16-pin "sub-board" header.

Sadly, Dell does not give a pin-out for this header. We only know to hook pin 1 to pin 1, and 34 to 34.
beyond that, you're down to using a volt-meter in continuity test mode, to trace down individual connections on the disconnected option board.

It's all on a small board and control panel, both of which connect via ribbon cables. Have you removed the power switch, etc from theseboards?

First, I want to thank you for your help. When I saw your pictures, I got excited. Unfortunately, the layout is for a 20 pin front panel.
I am in need of a 34 pin layout. The one I have has absolutely no lettering to place the inserts. All I have is the 1 and 2 also the
33 and 34. Location 21 has no pin. I really appreciate your help.
Please contact me if you locate a 34 pin layout. ----Thank you
Thank you for trying. If you locate a complete 34 pin out in the future, I will appreciate your forwarding it to me.--------Thank You
