GX150 optiflex "setup utility" configuration

Craig, If I follow you correctly, you are asking what setting you should have in the BIOS to make it Boot again. Fastest solution is to return to the BIOS and use the option of "Load Setup Defaults". These are the settings that the Manufacture or the OEM Motherboard Manufacture would have used during setup. With any luck, that should allow the system to restore to booting status. I hope this helps.

GX150 optiflex "setup utility" configuration

OPERATING SYSTEM. That would be Windows. You are in BIOS Setup, and shouldn't be in there.Computer OFF. (Press the Power On button, and hold it for 10 seconds until the computer turns off; if it is on)Press the Power On button, and hold it in. Hold for a count of 10 seconds. let go. Do this same procedure 2 more times. If the Power On LED light blinks, when you press the Power On button for the third time; hold for ten seconds, let go; do it again.Keep pressing until the Power On LED light doesn't blink on.This resets CMOS Error Codes, and resets BIOS Setup back to the factory default settings.Operating system error is solved by installing the Restoration Disk/s, and when asked choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)If this doesn't solve the problem, you have a bad harddrive data cable, or a bad harddrive.Regards, joecoolvette

If so, you will not be able to see the Intel part number.Looking at the motherboard as a map, with the Processor to the Top, and Ram Memory slots to the Right, the Processor is NORTH.(Ram Memory slots are to the EAST)Coming down the motherboard, the Northbridge chip is under the Processor.Come down further, and slightly to the right, and you will see the Southbridge chip.It has Intel 82801BA on it, with other Intel information ]HOWEVER, here is a list of Super I/O chipsets,http://web.archive.org/web/20070929033214/http://www.esupport.com/techsupport/award/superio.htm[ It comes up to the Wayback Machine. I have tried everything Ctrl F11, Ctrl F9, Ctrl F8

Im not sure that you understood the concept of resetting the hdd...this can be done only by formatting ...and from the windows you can not format but the partitions(drives) that not contain the windows installation ...to be able to format all partitions you have to use a installation cd with the operation system ( a boot-able one ) ..and boot from cd ...by selecting this operation from Bios settings ...and go along with the clean installation not from the recovery partition or cd ...
after you get along with the clean installation and formatted the hdd and remake the partitions ...and finished the installation of the operating system ...than you can use the recovery cd to install the drivers and the factory settings and programs .....
another easy way to do that ..is to hook it on another computer ...and just format it from windows...this will erase it clean ..and you will have to reinstall the OS after that ...

I get a blinking orange

It sounds like a power failure.
If it is plugged into a surge protector, try resetting it. In the Dell manual, it says, "if the power light is blinking amber - The computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist. Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board (see page 73)."
There is another thread on FixYa that might be of some use: http://www.fixya.com/support/t274632-dell_gx150_power_light_flashing_orange.
Finally, I checked a Dell forum and found this discussion: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/17794576.aspx.
If you do need to replace the power unit, I found a replacement part athttp://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2168.
If you are not comfortable replacing the part yourself, you can use a PC repair service, such as the Geek Squad. It might be worth getting a second opinion.
Thank you for using FixYa!

I have Dell GX 150.

Go to www.support.dell.com andselect "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have theproper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installedreturn to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "servicetag",(serial number) of the computer. Dell keeps a listing of driversfor every customer's computer they sell.

Replaced hard drive and now

Did you set the jumper(s) on the new drive to match the settings on the old drive (usually CS or Cable Select)?

Did you double check the power connector was snug on the new drive? You may also want to double check the connector on the motherboard, SF systems are cranky about moving around, and mave have unseated the motherboard end of the cable.

Power supply and processors fans spin then stops

There are a few possible sollutions, either your motherboard is faulty the processor, or the processor/motherboard settings. Here are some steps to follow to acertane which problem you have.

  1. Unplug the computer from the mains and take the side panel off remove any cables connected to the motherboard, exept the power cables, blow away any dust built up on the board and reboot the mechine.
  2. Turn the computer off and remove the little round lithium battery found on the motherboard for about 30 seconds and then replace, any settings that have been changed in the bios will return to factory defaults.
  3. If still the same problem persists and if you are confident enough to take the fan off the processor do so, there should be clips either side of the fan to take it off and expose the processor, with a dry cloth rub away any white coolent from the underneath of the fan and the top of the processor. you can by cooling compound from any pc store, reapply the new compound and reapply the fan to the processor and clip it back down. Reboot mechine Still nothing you could take it to your local pc store and ask them if they have a tested working processor that you could try.
  4. If all else fails you could have a faulty motherboard, find out what processor you have and memory the system uses and purchase a new mother board you could try here: www.ebuyer.com.

When laptop switched on dell logo appears then

restore your computer using the restore partition or restore cds, you can try to do a repair install of windows but sometimes that can hurt rather than help. if you want to f ind out the reason why hit f8 at boot and scroll down to 'do not restart computer after system failure' and hit enter, when it fails again it will give you a stop code looking similar to 0x00000000 that will give us a little better idea of what the issue is.
