Sounds like you are describing a binding issue with the latch.

Tolerances changing on metal parts like slides can cause binding.

Sometimes a stuck case can be opened using gentle pressure, noting where you push, or tap on case around the mechanism as you put pressure on latch, trying to remember where you press in an organized way, so you don't repeat what doesn't work,

There is no card reader on most models of the Optiplex 780. There may be a card reader on the SFF unit. The MT, desktop and USFF do not include a card reader. You can add a 3.5" internal card reader to the MT or desktop models for under $20. You could use an external USB card reader with any Optiplex 780.I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

the coin cell batter is dead. that means save button in Bios 100% dead. on all PCs made for 40 years 29years of optiplex. 780 is 2012, so not true that. 2 years old can not make means what? cant see all BIOS pages or can not use the save button ok is BIOS ADMIN PW enabled ? using keyboard are you? is this your first time in bios every on any PC . if yes read the screen prompts carefully if page 1 , set BIOS defaults falls in any way say so is PC just bought used dead, and coin cell missing inside if BIOS defaults fails that means page security ignored by you and passwords were set by others.

open lid remove cables from HDD if is with factory caddy it just slides out (blue caddy) move plastic tabs of caddy inward and it just slidesout some PC were modified here and I can not see yours now.

Duh... when restarting the computer... before it got to the login and password acceptance fields, I hit F2 (setup). I was able to default password settings there!

What is the exact error that you are getting? Do you get any blue screens? Have you installed any software recently or made any changes? I can only suggest checking the power cables and trying to use a different cable or spare if you have any for now.

You can try to attach the drive with a different USB cable to another computer. That way you will rule out connectivity issues and drivers as a possible cause. In case the issue persists, there is a good chance that something wrong with the enclosure or the HDD itself. In both cases, you can: -RMA the drive if under warranty.

does it say password not correct if it says that then shut down and restart when it restarts press f8 until you see a black screen and you should seen safe mode go into users account and take away passwords then exit out and restart and it should go to your homepage and then you are in there
